Sorry my memory of the mileage....it was out of warrenty. just over 60K....I had a loaner for 10 weeks. My service depart Boss see's all the repairs and even he has a extended warrenty on his Fords ! Best price for a Ext warrenty Zeigler Ford......not who I work for

Things I have learned about extended warranties:

-haven't had to put mine to use yet, thankfully. Until 2 years ago would never have believed I'd ever do business with a dealership, let alone buy 'new'. Partly from being a step into the unknown for me, and partly from the complexity of the model, Ford's recent reputation for recalls, and long-term concerns like CV axles, I bought Ford ESP through Granger.

-third-party warranties really do seem like a gimmick, with their own copays, limitations, and tying you to (what for me is a) distant dealership for all work.

-once you buy ESP, you can still extend the terms out for a while. I'm considering paying additional to at least upgrade to $0 copays, which would pay for itself by my 6th service call should that happen.

-you can extend for all the hybrid parts, except the hybrid hv battery -you know, that one really expensive part. Granger tells me there is no way through Ford to cover it any further than the 8/100k.

-if your Mav is totaled, like if a butterfly lands on it hard and dents the rear bumper, your ESP will refund you the prorated amount, which will probably not be much consolation.

-forgot to say, ESP is one-time transferrable

I worked for Ford for 35 years as a technician. If you don't get the longest Ford premium Care extended warranty from Granger or one of the other discount dealers, you are NUTZ. All you need is one module to go out and it will pay for itself. Everything on these new cars is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE including the labor. I got the 10 year Premium Care and I'm a former tech.

Well, I view one as a necessity and the other as a waste of money. However, I very rarely rely on others to work on my vehicles, so my experience isn't typical.

The warranty sellers are betting you will not need their services.
Simply put its math, some will win and most will lose.

Same with car & home insurance. Except your extended warranty rate won’t increase if you make a claim.

That said, I think extended warranties are not needed. Except on the ticking timebomb that is my 2025 Maverick. Just kidding, I love my Maverick. With it’s extended warranty.

I've been hit and miss on extended warranties. An F-150 I had, bought one, didn't pay for itself. The next car I bought I got it, and it paid for itself. I went without on a BMW, and skipped it when I got a nearly $5000 quote. And it wouldn't have paid for itself since the issues arose after it would have expired.

I bought my Maverick's through a national Ford dealer for low enough that it was worth the cost for me. I'm planning on keeping my Maverick for at least 10 years.

I would love one on my Maverick but the insane price increases from Ford (because they know people are going to use the shit out of them) is a firm no for me.

For the 10 yr/120k with 100 deductible, lights and rental - it was going to be over $3,900. For comparison sake - in 2023 my 10/120k/$100 deduct/lights, rental was only $2,400.


HondaCare on my 2024 Civic 10 yr/120k - they don't make you buy more BS riders - $1,020.

The hybrid componentry has 8 yr/100k warranty and drivetrain through 60k. If I have to use either of those during those periods I will think twice about keeping it once those are no longer effective.

And as a matter of principle, I wasn't going to buy a warranty from 3rd party companies I see offered in my junk/spam folder all the time. I see Endurance and Carshield in my folder now from just the last 2 days.

That's why I'm trading mine in before 5 years/60k miles. By then there's a decent chance something new and exciting will be out anyway. The new owner of my truck can get an extended warranty on a lightly used Maverick and enjoy it for as long as they wish.

Im not so lucky. I know a master mechanic but that doesnt solve anything. on the other end Ive paid for years of medical insurance and not used it.

I am coming to the end of my 3/36 warranty, with only a 1200 miles and 4 month left I have decided not to buy a extended warranty. My Maverick has been problem free and yes I know that doesn't guarantee a problem free future but I am going to take my chances.

Typically, extended warranties have 100% markup by the dealer. Example : Ford sells it to the dealer for $1500 , dealer charges $3k and pockets the difference. Not bad for a few minutes work !
I don’t consider that a reasonable deal, however if it suits you - you do you.
Another factor to consider is that if you are easy on your vehicles, your extended warranty helps pay for the always in a hurry drivers who likely use the extended warranty the most.
Like someone else pointed out, never , ever get third party warranties and in any case read the fine print carefully. Take the booklet home and read it inside out before you make a decision. Don’t rely on what the salesperson tells you - they may be long gone when you need the coverage, or even worse, deny what they told you.

Same here with the medical insurance...but worth paying for regardless. I can diagnose and fix vehicle issues with no problem. Diagnosing and fixing medical issues when they eventually crop up is beyond my reach.
