I wish I had recorded the price of all of the extended warranties I never bought over the years to show how much money I've saved. It definitely would equate to more than any potential issue I may have with a single vehicle.

Never any extended warranties for me either as I've always been able to fix things myself fairly inexpensively. As mentioned in other replies though, vehicles have gotten so complex these days it's nearly impossible to troubleshoot, much less fix things that can go wrong.

For the first time ever I'm planning on selling or trading my vehicles before the 5-year/60,000 mile warranties are up. I'll even consider leasing the next time I get a new vehicle.

Since my perception of vehicles has changed to seeing them as just a tool to haul things and to get around, I'm not one to customize or overly accessorize them and have no problem leaving them bone stock so they get lost in the incessant shuffle of look-alike vehicles these days. Plus I haven't been driving nearly as far since I retired and I'd be be able to forget about paying for maintenance and repairs. I'm thinking a lease might work well for me.

Me too - I have saved a fortune!
And never regretted never having one either.

But this voice in the back of my head was saying “don’t blow that fortune and press your luck on this Maverick”.

I have learned to trust that voice.

I never buy extended warranties on other items but after owning several Escapes, I fully expect the transmission in my Maverick to grenade before 100k miles. Since I plan on keeping mine until 100-125K or so, a Ford ESP was a no brainer for me.

Add in the nagging electronic issues I've already had before 50K (power window motors dying, sensors no longer working) and this is definitely one vehicle that is the exception to my "don't buy warranties" rule.

I'd still never consider those trash 3rd party warranties, though.

Smart move. I have my warranty with the dealer that will be doing the repairs:)

I bought an extended warranty/service contract. This is a first. I realized that I am too old to crawl under and do many of the repairs and upkeep I have done on all my other vehicles. I have a 38 year old Sable station wagon with 250,000 miles and a 1985 Ford Ranger both of which I have maintained since new. I am too close to 80 to think I can do work on the Maverick that I did on those and other vehicles. If the engine or transmission decide to give up the ghost, I will not have to pay the full repair cost, which I would expect to be a large multiple of the one-time premium.
I think I will not ever buy another vehicle, so this one is expected to last for a while. Not having to consider vehicle repair costs is nice.

The warranty sellers are betting you will not need their services.
Simply put its math, some will win and most will lose.:D

I usually don't by extended warranties but 3 years ago I went out and got a new washer and drier combo from LG, as soon as I heard the Best Buy guy saying those things have a Wi-Fi board and all the electronics I decide that maybe I would be a good idea, it was, not too long ago the Geek Squad came around to replace the from rubber piece for the washer, nice.
Lately things are being built under the criteria that lets just hope it makes it thru the warranty, if it does not make it is always cheaper to patch it that do the proper R&D.
All industries are going that way, electronics, automotive, plastics, etc.
It has been shown that is never a good deal to have items lasting more than 5 years, we are going to buy and replace, we need to help with their EBITDA

I would love one on my Maverick but the insane price increases from Ford (because they know people are going to use the shit out of them) is a firm no for me.

For the 10 yr/120k with 100 deductible, lights and rental - it was going to be over $3,900. For comparison sake - in 2023 my 10/120k/$100 deduct/lights, rental was only $2,400.

HondaCare on my 2024 Civic 10 yr/120k - they don't make you buy more BS riders - $1,020.

The hybrid componentry has 8 yr/100k warranty and drivetrain through 60k. If I have to use either of those during those periods I will think twice about keeping it once those are no longer effective.

This is only the second time I bought an extended warranty. The first was on a Harley that had a lifter break and wiped out the lower end of the engine. The cost was more than what I paid for the warranty.
The second was on my Maverick. Plan on keeping it long term, and just like the peace of mind.

I'm like a lot of others, where I've never been big on extended warranties.
With that said, on my previous car, a Fiesta with the DCT transmission and with the problems Ford had with that trans, I opted for an extended warranty.
Now with the Maverick, which has more electronics and sensors and while I'm confident with the mature hybrid technology, even the best tech can fail.

So I will probably go for the extended warranty and if not, then I will trade it in while it still retains a lot of value.

The hybrid technology is covered for 8 years and 100k miles and my EB power train is covered for 5yrs and 60k miles. No guarantees but I like the odds.

I am coming to the end of my 3/36 warranty, with only a 1200 miles and 4 month left I have decided not to buy a extended warranty. My Maverick has been problem free and yes I know that doesn't guarantee a problem free future but I am going to take my chances.
1200 miles in 3 years WHY would you ever even consider it at all . That would be insane . Average miles is 13 K a year. Your not even in the same I would say ball park but for you same country,.

Coming to the end of my 3/36, it makes sense to consider all options. I decieded the extended warranty is not for me. My average milage is 12k

I know the hybrid has a longer warranty and it's also a mature technology, so that's secondary for me.
I'm more concerned about all the electronics, which would be covered under the 3/36 warranty and would get very expensive very quickly, ergo, the thought of getting the warranty.
Power windows, seats, mirrors, copilot 360, pre collision & AEB, etc. and most of it I can't repair easily myself, especially since for a big part of it, I don't have the diagnostic tools to troubleshoot.
I already have over 5K miles in 4 months, so the bumper to bumper will be gone too quickly!

I am not afraid to work on my vehicles, since I've done just about everything on previous vehicles, but the electronics/electrical gremlins are mostly beyond my means.
