Before I saw a random YouTube video of the Maverick on June 10th, only 2 days after the official reveal, I was going to get an suv when my current car died. I was looking at a Audi Q5 or Kia Telluride.

Then this little truck came to me as if Ford saw me at Home Depot loading bags mulch into my cars trunk(it would only take me 3 trips to get the 12 bags I usually need) and made a truck for me. Glad the timing worked out and I will now save well over $20k and get a truck!

Long story short. What were you originally planning on buying before the Mav was presented to you on a silver platter?

I was looking at the Bronco Sport base model. When I saw that Ford was bringing out a small truck it seemed like the perfect vehicle and the price was right. I put in my order.

Was looking at used f150s for a few months to replace a 93 f250. Once the pictures of the Santa Cruz came out I thought about it but then the maverick was shown and the price was great. I realized I didn't really need a truck the size of the f150 and the rangers were never really a thought. The maverick fit all my needs and wants and went in and ordered it in July and just picked up on 11/19.

I paid a deposit on a Hyundai Ioniq 5 back on June 3rd (just a few days before Ford formally debuted the Maverick). Hyundai still have not provided a firm release date or even given US customers any indication of pricing. As the months pass, the launch continues to be delayed, and the chip situation continues unabated, I'm beginning to believe the price of the model I spec'd is going to be way more than I anticipated. I started seriously looking at the Maverick in October (late to the party, I know) when the production schedule of the hybrid was looking more definite.

I haven't canceled the Ioniq 5 (in all likelihood it will be available to me before my Maverick is ready). I'll make a decision on that vehicle once I know the price and when I've had an opportunity to see and drive it. Based on the difference in price I'm anticipating, the Hyundai is going to have to blow me away to get me to pony up for the Ioniq. TBH, I'm way more excited about the Maverick at this point.

I ordered my XLT Hybrid last week, just before Ford shut down hybrid orders for 2022.
Now I wait...again

I bought a F-150 powerboost after I ordered. Not sure what I’m going to do when the Mav is built. Getting 28 mpg on my commute with the F-150. I will be able to make a few grand on either if I sell.

I was dead set on a Santa Cruz. But two things dissuaded me. 1. No physical buttons for the volume on the radio. 2. I grew tired of the jacking up of prices by local Hyundai dealers. Found an honest Ford dealer that said MSRP, and I jumped on the opportunity.

I was two or three days from buying a brand new Nissan Kicks SV (their middle grade trim) for $23,000. Sticker was $23,600 but the dealer was going to give a little (if I used the Nissan financing which was not bad, like .9% for 36 months).
In fact, a couple of days after I ordered my Maverick, they followed up and said they would accept my offer. I told them, "too late".
Of course, back in August i should have ordered the Maverick and bought the Kicks. It was on the lot, ready to buy. So instead, I'm driving my Expedition as my daily driver until the Maverick shows up.

I too am 66 and retired, I will be replacing a '14 F150 Lariat Supercrew that I got a "STEAL OF A DEAL" on. I bought it because I love the versatility of a truck and the 5 or 6 seat capabilities. I had several old style Rangers but they hadn't been reincarnated in 2014 so I got the F150. I wasn't in the market for a new vehicle becase of price of most new trucks and my '14 F150 only has 63k on it, but when I saw the pricing, size and looks I jumped at it on 6/16/21. I drove one a few weeks ago and should have my Lariat, First Edition, AWD, 4K, Rapid Red Maverick by mid December (week of 1/29 build date).
Make that 3 66-year old dudes!! I turned 65 last year and retired. Sold my beater that I had been driving to the office. Almost bought a Nissan Kicks as a run-around town car, but heard about the Maverick and loved what I learned, especially the hybrid power train.
I agree with you that this is a vehicle that will appeal to retirees. I am not building houses, and I'm not going to tow with it --- it's just going to be my run around vehicle, get good mileage, be able to take another couple with us to dinner.
As an old dude, I will also say that I wish they put CD players in it. I don't pay for the radio, or for Apple Music or any of that crap. Just let me play my CDs and I'm happy.

Dig your Discman up and get that little converter jack for the USB input. I'm actually doing it with a Walkman. 300 cassettes can't be wrong. Well maybe. P.S. I'm 56.

I'm 70, still working, driving my wife's 2012 Optima since we got her an Outback. Wanted to take advantage of the hot used market to sell the Optima, and get something new, that was reasonably priced, gets good mileage, and is versatile for carrying mulch, plants, wood for furniture making, and especially golf clubs! Considered SC, but got turned off early for a variety of reasons.
Have had a new 96 Grand Cherokee (factory ordered), a new Toyota Sequoia, a new Lincoln MKT, and a couple of used vehicles including a nice VW Beetle recently.
Ordered Area 51 Hybrid Lariat w/Lux package in October - hoping for spring to come soon! Patience is a virtue!
This is the most exciting purchase of them all!

I was looking at a 2017 or newer F-150. I didn't want the mileage hit, but needed something that would carry my wife's powered wheelchair as well as serve for general home ownership stuff. But with the price of used trucks going crazy I might be saving money by getting almost exactly what I really wanted.

Either a Toyota Tacoma with 80k miles, or a Nissan Frontier with 50k miles. Was seriously looking at, and test drove both before the pandemic when prices were normal, but just could not pull the trigger because of the MPG. I drive 40 miles each way to work M-F so millage racks up fast.

At this point those trucks would be over 100k miles and years older to be in my price range... then the Maverick got announced with the same or better payload capacity (I don't tow anything), 40 mpg and right in my budget. So now I get a brand new truck with full warranty for the price of a 100k mile, 6 year old truck. Seemed like a no brainer to me!

I was set on Mazda CX-5 or CX-30 but at this price I couldn't pass up to try the hybrid Maverick.
