Excellent! The test vehicle is pretty much the same as what have ordered. I didn't see any trailer sway during braking. Comforting to know since there were no brakes on the trailer with just the 4 pin connector.

I too would like to know what tires?

He stated all new vehicles are required to have backup cameras per law. Is that accurate? Do all trims come with backup cameras? I know the Lariat does, but I wasn't aware other trims did.
All new cars in the US by law have to have backup cameras since like 2014 I think.

it's why cars all come with infotainment systems now, since they need the screen anyway.

The computer shuts off fuel so it's just using the engine compression to provide braking without using any gasoline. See owners manual below -

I have to say @Big_T I am duly impressed with your knowledge and familiarity with trucks manual. Kudos dude.

Dang, I wish they would have gotten off the highway and gone over the pass instead of through the tunnel. The section they did was 6 miles at 6% for 6 minutes at 11,000 ft in altitude. The pass would have been another 800' of vertical up through a wicked set of snow covered switchbacks. That would have been an exiting video. I would expect hybrid to have done well, delivering torque when it was needed most. The front wheel drive would help with traction.

They had that Atkinson cycle engine completely wound out on one of the longest steepest interstate highway grades in the country, at 11.000 feet. All they had to say was the engine drone was loud. Slow down for 10 minutes of your life and maybe you won't have to play Ozzy so loud.

I like the comment about the tach. A tach on a hybrid may be misleading in the traditional ICE sense of indicating available torque. It wound indicate how hard the ICE is working. I don't think the Atkinson cycle likes to be run at redline very long. Fortunately, there are only a few roads in the country with long and steep enough inclines to deplete the battery assist when hauling 2K pounds in a trailer.

Excellent review!! Makes me all the happier about waiting (not much longer I hope!) on my hybrid. It also appears the Maverick in the video is pretty much the same build as mine except for the color, I went with CGM so the seeing the performance is filling me with joy! Finally, good to see a hybrid being put through it's paces and coming out strong! If the only complaint is the engine drone, well crank up some Blues and your droning blues will disappear!!

Yes, it’s federal law.
And with the infrastructure bill we are getting more requirements.
I think it said after 2026 new vehicles will have to alcohol detection. Using either breathalyzer, camera that can detect BAC, or even steering wheels that can detect BAC from skin contact.
Also Forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist systems. Then I think there was something about auto dimming head light, new requirements for headlights and grading. Something about better from ends to protect cyclist and padestians.
Anti rollaway, rear seat occupied warning for the children you may leave in there, and auto vehicle shut down.

Not all of them are required, we are studies.

Sounds like they like it
I have yet to see a truly critical review. Mostly they all like the mav with perhaps a few details that could use improvement. Have yet to see anyone say there are any serious problems.

The only thing that I found wrong with this review is the use of the word "trucklette"! Maverick is not a trucklette! 🤨🤣🤣

I wouldn't say it was "wound out" but it was definitely holding at a very high RPM. Happens in my Forester with a 2.5 NA boxer so im sure the Atkinson would do the same even with the electric assist.

He was doing what, 60 mph? I don't think they were running the Mav harder than it should have been.

You should never use cruise control on slippery surfaces like ice, snow or rain.

Avoid Cruise Control On Slippery Roads

Fact: Using cruise control when driving in the rain, snow, hail, sleet or ice, slippery roads can affect the system's ability to maintain a constant vehicle speed. On wet roads, cruise control set at too fast a speed could cause the vehicle to hydroplane when it encounters standing water. On very low-traction surfaces such as ice and snow, cruise control operation can result in a skid or spin. Drive safe and avoid using cruise control on slippery roads

Instinctively I don't. I was so focused on the purpose of the test, I missed the guerrilla in the room.:(
