Seems the Hybrid should be fine for towing if kept within its limits. They rate it quite well, except for engine noise when towing uphill on a long extreme grade.

For my midwestern needs it hits a bullseye.

Nice review. Encourages me to continue being patient. I’ve driven that hill MANY times over the years, in many different vehicles, and that was an impressive performance for a little truck.

Another solid Mav performance. Look forward to the 2.0L 4K test! I will be max towing a handful of times per year.

What tires were on this truck? Waited until the very end to see how the FWD may do in the snow. Some wheel spin, but it was pulling a trailer.

Did I miss the part where they shared the downhill fuel economy? Or was the gas motor off the whole time so it read 99mpg? They said the uphill fuel economy was like 11mpg, which they thought was good.

Was happy to hear them say payload for the Hybrid XLT (w/spray in liner, CP360, and rear window, hitch) was still 1,471 lbs - that is what I guesstimated I will see with the XL Hybrid with near similar options.

Towing was nice. Drone was to be expected in my opinion. I'd be interested to see them make a pass down and up the mountain in the Hybrid while not towing. A big reason for getting the Hybrid is going to be trips from Ohio to Western NC and there is a lot of mountain driving. I was hoping that I would be able to "sail" down the mountains with the ICE turning off and then have stronger pull up the mountain with electric assist.

They mentioned the ICE engine was on going downhill to help serve as an engine brake in conjunction with the regen braking of the electric motor. I am hoping that the ICE engine will shut off on steep grades like that when not towing.

He stated all new vehicles are required to have backup cameras per law. Is that accurate? Do all trims come with backup cameras? I know the Lariat does, but I wasn't aware other trims did.

The computer shuts off fuel so it's just using the engine compression to provide braking without using any gasoline. See owners manual below -

It will use compression braking with fuel cutoff (as the other poster said). It will optimize between than and regen based on the level of charge on the battery.

Yes, it’s federal law.

Yes a federal law for all vehicles since 2018. I believe passenger cars were 2016.
