Why ecoboost? Properly configured, it's better than a hybrid in every single difference they have except fuel economy.

AWD if equipped (and it should be). Tows 4k if equipped. It's MUCH more fun to drive fast. Much more capable offroad or in wintry conditions (assuming same/similar tires used comparing hybrid and ecoboost AWD).

Hybrid can save a lot of money in high mileage scenarios, especially high mileage urban. I do about 25k miles a year but it's 85% highway, more than 2/3rds is company travel, and my company pays for the gas.

Even if I drove 15k a year and paid all the gas, I wouldn't want a hybrid Maverick. I want a more capable vehicle.

In 2022 ordered a plain hybrid
Time passed and there was the storm of issues with the hybrids, I started to chicken out
Received the famous email from Ford "suggesting" change to EB for improving odds to get the truck
Did change, for good measure added AWD and 4k tow
Got it 3 days ago, very happy with it (especially with the private offer of $2500 and the Farm Bureau of $500)

Need AWD for the winters here and 4K towing.

What made you decide to get the ecoboost over the hybrid?
Was it mainly towing?
First off performance of the two, see my other car for reference. Then 4K and Tow. Resale value around my area of the country lastly.

AWD, independent suspension, ludicrously overpowered (aka fun). I've averaged 28.7 mpg in the WNC mountains over 17,000 miles. So it's not like it's a crazed gas guzzler.

For me it is not worth $1,500 more than the EcoBoost since I will put about 3,000 miles a year on it. My 2022 Maverick EcoBoost has averaged 30 mpg since I took delivery.

Not liking hybrid driving behavior:
  • Not a fan of regenerative braking, don't like brakes that feel weird.
  • First, we don’t “start” a hybrid, we “power on” a hybrid.
  • Sometimes the engine will start up when you power on the Maverick, other times it may not. The engine usually won’t actually start up until sometime after you get moving.
  • I don't like missing the sensation of gear shifts. Prefer old school transmission over eCVT transmission.
  • At some point the high-voltage battery could need replacement.
  • Try explaining to a family member who borrows the Maverick that it will drive different than what they are used to driving.
  • Many states are charging additional fees for hybrids/electric vehicles to make up for lost revenue from the sale of gas. It is just the beginning.

AWD was the biggest factor for me.

I was also familiar with the Focus ST and know that the 2.0 has been around awhile and is a proven powerplant at this point. The added complexity of a Hybrid was in the back of my mind as well as I plan to own this truck for awhile.

After reading a few articles and realizing how zippy the AWD 2.0 setup is was enticing to me.

4K tow was a big part of the equation too, as I wanted the ability to move my boats if needed and tow a small utility trailer with other toys.

Being in a snowy climate, I opted for the FX4 option solely for the front tow hooks as well. Needing those and not having them once was enough for me to really want that as an option.

I was replacing 2 vehicles with 1.
A 2014 C-Max and a 2016 Frontier 4x4.
So AWD was important for my off-road uses.
Had AWD been available with the hybrid I would still have chosen the Ecoboost. No complaints about the C-Max but also no complaints with my previous 2013 Escape 2.0 EB or my wife’s 2019 Escape 2.0 EB either. My 2013 got driven hard, 100 miles a day five days a week.
Lastly, a DOHC turbocharged engine with an 8 speed auto, AWD with IRS is pretty cool in my book!
Oh, and we decided to keep the C-Max due to someone jacking up the fuel prices overnight $$$$$! I retired 9 months ago and gave her to my son for his daily commuter, great car.

I went with the hybrid for my 2023 model - my brother is getting a 2024 ecoboost estimated December 2023 delivery. He wanted AWD. I did not.

With the $1,500 cost difference, the hybrid may not make sense if you drive less than 5k a year, or you drive 85% highway miles.

Ultimately Ford told me I was getting an EB or no Maverick at all. This also coincided with the Tremor package coming out so instead of dropping out of the Maverick game I stepped into the Tremor and I love it.

Can't wait to add the S&B intake and Livernois tune to bring out the EB/8spd's full potential.

AWD, 4k tow, and...

Which one has the recalls for the crankshaft grenading the engine? eCVT simpler? No "belts"?

This isn't a dick measuring contest but you hybrid owners always like to try and take it there. It comes down to specific things. If they made an AWD Hybrid and the recalls were not as bad as they are for the hybrids, a lot of people including myself would feel different.

So stop it. Stop trolling. Jury dismissed.
Show some long term data.
