Wow! That particulate filter can be $4k. There is the cause of the price increase, or at least a contributer. Also something else to break/fail/maintain in the emissions system.

I wonder what the life expectancy of one of these particulate filters is?

My understanding is that Ford's GPF is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. However, it's not clear to me how problematic it would be for my driving routine, which is low mileage (~ 200/mo.), mostly short drives, 95% at low speed urban driving. Based on an excerpt from a European owners manual, I could expect regular messages to pop up that would require a 20 minute drive at highway speeds to heat up the GPF so it can clean out the carbon. If I regularly drove at highway speeds, I would not be concerned about maintenance costs.

Like you I drive very little and do not need the nonsense of being told to go drive 20 minutes when I do not want to to satisfy the unelected bureaucrat gods in the EPA. (Notice I specified "unelected" so this is not political) :)

Suddenly my '23 FX/4 looks better and better and every day I will enjoy my extra 12 HP too. (y) .
