Honestly I took a 2022 xlt used hybrid out for a test drive. I didn't like the cloth seats and not having almost none of the nicest even my fusion had. I passed, I took my 2024 lariat out for a test drive and it was like a whole new experience. I feel like the Maverick at least to me has more space in the cab than the previous gen ranger. I love how comfortable the leather seats are. Yeah okay I could of paid 2 grand more and got myself into a base model ranger xlt. But the thing i didn't want that. Cloth seats suck. I'm one were I love all the standard technologies. Thx just my opinion.

Leather 🤣 Nope.
No leather 🐄 in your Maverick.
The only leather inside a Maverick is your shoes, your belt, your wallet/purse.
You're sitting on recycled plastic bottles.
What is Ford ActiveX seating material made of?
ActiveX is a fully synthetic material. It uses no animal or organic products in its manufacture, instead pressing recycled plastic bottles into duty.
In the summertime when it's 147° inside the truck. I think leather, vinyl, ActiveX/pleather, naugahide all suck. They offer no air circulation whatsoever, you end up with swamp ass
Give me cloth seats that offer some air circulation.

I don't think I've seen people complain about others spending $40,000 on a Maverick.

But I have seen quite a few people like me that tell it like it is: the $42,000 Mavericks at the top end for 2025 have the same exact build quality as the $20,000 XLs in 2022. That could be problematic for some.

I laughed becasue I am the second camp. Still not sure if I made the right choice and I will bail in a second if we get a solid competitor. Having a Ford has made me nervous so far. You can just tell the build quality is lacking.

Good example. I felt like my steering wheel was not lined up. I went ta a flat spot and busted out the level. Turns out all the dash panels are a little off and it made the wheel look crooked. For me so far I waish I would have spent $10k more, but I do love the MPG so far. I have the feeling the Mav is going to be a loss for me in the end and my last Ford.

My dealership experience has been abysmal so far which is making me really ponder just getting out now. What good is a 10 year warranty if a bunch of smucks are fixing your car. As for the $40k complaint, I jusy feel like there are better vehicles out there for that kind of money. The truck feels like a $20k vehicle and everything else is lipstick on a pig.
I definitely agree with this sentiment. Generally, I do all of my own vehicle repairs and maintenance but that's on vehicles you know the powertrain is just going to keep on running forever (Honda/Toyota, very specific Nissans). This might be my first and last Ford.

There is the hope that the 10yr/100k warranty will make sure any catastrophic failures are covered and that it gets us to an actual energy transition (if that happens at all - esp so far north). Either that or we trade it in for a Toyota Scout or Subaru Baja if either of those come to fruition and can tow at least 2k.

I get it, 40k is a lot of money, the interior is from a $20,000 vehicle, and the lariat is just putting lipstick on a pig etc. etc.

but I'm going to list things I need in a vehicle, and try to come up with something for me.
-has a bed for dirt/mulch etc so it doesn't get in the cab. (my wife likes to garden and we have a decently big property to do work on)
-gets good gas mileage because my wife and I live outside the city and commute about 60 miles to work one way
-has a good ride quality/decent handling. I've daily driven sports cars my whole life so I have some expectation that it doesn't drive like complete crap like a "real" truck.
-leather/pleather seats for ease of cleaning. we have a dog and scrubbing mud out of cloth seats sucks ass.
-has 4-5k towing capabilities for a trailer to do home renos/dump runs etc.
-is less than $50k.
-AWD for winter driving
-is small enough to park in the city easily, good turning radius etc.

Literally, the ONLY vehicle that currently exists which fits that arbitrary list of criteria is the 2025 maverick lariat hybrid/awd. The xlt doesn't come with pleather seats, 2024 models don't come awd and hybrid, any crossover/suv isn't going to have a seperate area for dirt so it's going to end up all over the cabin. Any "real" truck is going to be too big, too fuel hungry and crap to drive.

Everyone talks like getting a ranger is some huge upgrade for a few grand more. It's a completely different class of vehicle. It's like asking why someone bought a miata when they could have bought a duramax because you can't haul 20 sheets of plywood in a miata. Like maybe the "more capable" vehicle is actually worse in the ways that matter to that person, and much more inconvenient in other ways? Anyways I'm just tired of hearing about this and wanted to get your guys thoughts.
That's too much money for a Maverick. 2025 XL Hybrid AWD with aftermarket seat covers. Seat covers don't cost $6000. Just get the XL or XLT. 19" wheels on the Lariat too. I'm glad to have the 17". You might like the 19" for handling, but it's not worth the $ IMO.

It’s a cheap truck with cheap components.

Why make it an expensive truck with cheap components?

Just playing devil's advocate here but an XL can check all those boxes, except for the seats, and is at least $8k cheaper. You can get really nice aftermarket leather seats for a fraction of $8k. Granted a Lariat comes with more bells and whistles but those aren't on your list.

Just a thought.... they make some very nice seat covers now for vehicles (a lot better than the ones I got for my 89 Corsica years ago lol). I'm not sure about the back seats, but I'm sure others have info there. Also, we have one of these things:

Amazon.com: Mabett Dog Seat Covers for Ford Maverick 2024 2023 2022 Accessories, Back Seat Hammock Extender for Pets Include Door Sides and Headrests Protection-Hard Bottom Support 600D Oxford Cloth : Pet Supplies

Just thinking if the seats are the only reason for the lariat... you are talking $10-$11k for the Lariat over the XL. That's the cost of a detailing every other month for 10 years. But if you want the other creature comforts, absolutely get what you want and need.

I ended up with the XL, it's our 2nd vehicle, and my wife wanted the copilot so I was already getting the power mirrors (and I got a cubby for the bed, so outside of the steel wheels and non-manual seats there wasn't much else I was getting from the XLT (they do allow you to get some nicer packages with that trim though).

Anyways, I think you are on the right path. Commuting I am guessing/hoping that 60 miles is mostly highway, so you aren't losing much there going with the ecoboost over the hybrid (gains are massive in city driving though for MPG).

I think you've found the only one though. The Santa Cruz is 25-27mpg hwy in the AWD trim. I thought the Ridgeline was pretty amazing when it came out but it's MPG isn't great.

I like the bed by the way, I'm a tall guy and the new pickups... Even I'm not reaching over the side for anything heavy out of them.

I succumbed to your logic and just purchase a 10yr/100k ESP for $2k. I did the math, and since I own the truck already it is cheaper for me to go ahead and buy the warranty than take the depreciation hit. I think I will sleep better now knowing I can at least get 8-10 years out of it. I also promised myself if it turns into a time suck I will bail and get a prorated refund.

Wish me luck :).

I test drove one of the first Maverick's in Utah- An XLT /Eco with a hitch- Not much else- After waiting 8 months to see and drive one in person while having one on order I was pretty disappointed. Was noisy, felt like a 25k rig at best- A couple months later drove a fully optioned out Lariat/Lux- 4K/FX4- Felt and drove like a totally different rig in all ways - Upgraded my order to a Lariat/Lux 4K/FX4 the same day.

This is a tough one! I'm hoping we made the smart decision but also that we never have to use it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

nearly every vehicle sold fits that example because of trim levels.

2021 Bronco base started at 29,500 just like the 2022 Maverick started at 19,500 (or whatever). Bronco Raptor stickers for well over 70k. same dash and interior plastics. obviously same production line.

it's really only problematic when people buy a 40k Maverick lariat and expect quality and features equal to a 70k F150 lariat.

Can we buy a warranty after owning the truck? I thought you had to buy it at the time you purchased the truck. Or is this not a Ford dealership warrantee? Can you give me the details? We love our Maverick, but worry about reliability and repairs down the road.
