Why do people complain about others spending 40k on a maverick?

I get it, 40k is a lot of money, the interior is from a $20,000 vehicle, and the lariat is just putting lipstick on a pig etc. etc.

but I'm going to list things I need in a vehicle, and try to come up with something for me.
-has a bed for dirt/mulch etc so it doesn't get in the cab. (my wife likes to garden and we have a decently big property to do work on)
-gets good gas mileage because my wife and I live outside the city and commute about 60 miles to work one way
-has a good ride quality/decent handling. I've daily driven sports cars my whole life so I have some expectation that it doesn't drive like complete crap like a "real" truck.
-leather/pleather seats for ease of cleaning. we have a dog and scrubbing mud out of cloth seats sucks ass.
-has 4-5k towing capabilities for a trailer to do home renos/dump runs etc.
-is less than $50k.
-AWD for winter driving
-is small enough to park in the city easily, good turning radius etc.

Literally, the ONLY vehicle that currently exists which fits that arbitrary list of criteria is the 2025 maverick lariat hybrid/awd. The xlt doesn't come with pleather seats, 2024 models don't come awd and hybrid, any crossover/suv isn't going to have a seperate area for dirt so it's going to end up all over the cabin. Any "real" truck is going to be too big, too fuel hungry and crap to drive.

Everyone talks like getting a ranger is some huge upgrade for a few grand more. It's a completely different class of vehicle. It's like asking why someone bought a miata when they could have bought a duramax because you can't haul 20 sheets of plywood in a miata. Like maybe the "more capable" vehicle is actually worse in the ways that matter to that person, and much more inconvenient in other ways? Anyways I'm just tired of hearing about this and wanted to get your guys thoughts.

Retired and moved south three years ago, I traded in my 2018 F-150 for my 2022 Maverick Lariat hybrid. If I still lived in northern Michigan, I would also look seriously at the 2025 AWD Hybrid with 4K towing. But my current ride does all I need it to do. And the gas mileage is a major point to purchasing it, so we all have to do what we want to do for our needs. Others may have their opinions, but they aren't paying the note. Do what is best for you!

Same reason I complain about people buying a Gibson Les Paul Studio for more than $1200... That's because the most I paid for mine new with a HSC was $600 and it was 10 years ago.. to me it was only a few years back ;)

No need to justify whatsoever. Higher trims are always less "value" because you get the same motor/ transmission/ fenders/ truckbed/ interior carpet... But who cares?

If I didn't have my '23 Hybrid Lariat FWD and if I could justify the "need" I would SUPER WANT the Lariat Hybrid AWD Maverick. It's what I wanted when I put my order in, October 2021- but had to pick between AWD OR Hybrid....

I see complaining as too strong of an adjective but, sure, I think that perspective comes from two things:

1. there are those who think Ford's price hikes have been aggressive. I recently bought a '24, but the same truck was 3,200 cheaper in 2022, or about 11%. To your point, I saw the value in it and bought one anyway. Today you can get nice discounts from MSRP which you couldn't get in '22. The '25 is another fairly significant jump for my configuration, and the options packaging requires other add-ons than before.

2. there are those who think 40K+ is a lot for a vehicle that has obvious cost control measures. Unemotionally this is true to an extent, and the real value is at the XL level, but I bought an XLT. The interior materials demonstrate cost cutting, and I think that's a great reason to not overspend on the Maverick - it will never be a luxury vehicle. People get to make choices.

I love the forums until I hate the forums. Look at how many of us have been scared into thinking the maverick, which according to most reliable data collection sites, is an above average vehicle in terms of quality/reliability. But we're worried about it because we're on a site that emphasizes the negative.

How does that tie into this topic? Because all we hear is complaints. The maverick is a stellar value for money. People just need to understand that once you start checking off options boxes, things get expensive fast. I agree with you, there aren't many things more annoying than seeing someone complain about a car being too expensive, just to find out they're trying to option it with everything on it. It's like eating at the buffet and claiming it's too many calories.

If people think 40k is too much for a Maverick, there's nothing stopping them from getting a XLT or XL. I've said I personally believe the XLT is the sweet spot for the maverick, but if someone really wants a Lariat, I say screw anyone who wants to be a detractor over the price.

any argument above 'overspending' on a maverick falls short when considering your next-best alternatives. there was no competition for the maverick in 2021, either hybrid or ecoboost, and it's still true today. there's nothing that matches the features and cost.

do you want adaptive cruise for frequent highway trips? can only get it in a maverick lariat (or higher for MY25). you then compare that maverick lariat (either hybrid or ecoboost) against what else you can buy for high 30s - low 40s, and you get nothing.

if you don't want/need adaptive cruise, the MY25 XLT is very compelling with sync4a infotainment and push to start.

the best time to buy a maverick xl was in 2021. it's easy to justify an xlt now.

xlt lux and black appearance package are pricey, but they're not required.

Some people like to beotch, moan, gripe, and complain about price, like as if they were buying it. The only person price matters to is YOU! It’s your money. Prices fluctuate depending on the market value, dealer added options, current incentives, and availability. If you’re paying a price you’re comfortable with, that’s awesome!! Otherwise, don’t let the others bother you. The truck fits YOUR needs, not theirs. Don’t let the crybabies ruin your day. And that’s the bottom line! Why? Because Jedi Tanker (me)says so!

WHAT I'VE SAID SINCE DAY ONE:

"If people think 40k is too much for a Maverick, there's nothing stopping them from getting a XLT or XL. I've said I personally believe the XLT is the sweet spot for the maverick, but if someone really wants a Lariat, I say screw anyone who wants to be a detractor over the price."

I paid $23,780 for a loaded XLT...zero regrets. Very pleased with the Maverick Hybrid for my needs, EcoBoost did not fit my needs.....don't need AWD....buy what you need...Maverick became so popular Ford justified a price increase.

I'm getting 42-43 mpg on med grade fuel...that is saving me around $120 every month.
