Everyone talks like getting a ranger is some huge upgrade for a few grand more.
I actually considered it. The Maverick I want is basically fully optioned out (Lariat, hybrid, AWD, 4K tow, moonroof) and that's only because the Lariat is now the only way to get dual zone auto climate. Otherwise I'd be content with an XLT Lux. But the Lariat in that configuration rings up at $40,865.

A Ranger with the key features I do want (power seat and dual zone auto climate) would be an XLT High (301A) with basic trailer tow package and rings up at $42,685.

That's "only" $1,820 more, but it really depends on what one's needs are. The Ranger can tow more and has low range. The Maverick can get 35+ MPG, 500+ miles per tank, and is AWD.

I'm coming from a 2014 King Ranch F150 that I dont use to its full capability any more. I looked at replacing it with a 2024 King Ranch because all I've ever owned is full size pickups. But at 18mpg and an almost $80k price tag it would be foolish. Yeah, maybe the "value" of my ordered 2025 Hybrid AWD Mav isn't worth $40k, but what else would I buy that gets 40mpg, has AWD for midwest winters and Colorado ski trips, while also giving me the truck bed I don't want to live without?
Up until my Nissan Frontier, the only pickups I had were all full-size, and I thought I'd struggle with the Frontier's 5' bed. But my F-250's 8' bed only came in handy for me about once a year. Other than that, there are very few instances where the 5' bed was a problem, and I'd be okay losing another 6" of bed and the ability to tow a car on a flat-deck trailer in exchange for basically doubling my cruising range and fuel economy.

As a counter, my neighbor picked up a '24 JGC Limited for $40K...$14K off sticker. I'd buy that and get a utility trailer over a $40K Mav.
I did the utility trailer thing for a bit. I'd rather have a $40K Mav than an SUV with a utility trailer. The truck saves me time since I have the flexibility of completing jobs in whatever order other than having to loop back home to drop or hook the trailer.

I suppose it also allows me to be a bit spontaneous. If I get done early and thus have time to get that repaired part from my friend's shop on the way home, well again I can just toss it in the back of the truck rather than having to drive home, hook the trailer, and drive effectively halfway back to wherever I'm at.

I paid USD $32,700 for my 24 XLT Tremor with Delux Package. I think that is a really fair price.

I don’t complain about others spending over $40K on a Mav because I’m one of them that did. I was expecting more than what I got and that’s what I complain about. Didn’t wisely think that it’s still a $20K vehicle and thought all the options would make it different. Nope.

Can we buy a warranty after owning the truck? I thought you had to buy it at the time you purchased the truck. Or is this not a Ford dealership warrantee? Can you give me the details? We love our Maverick, but worry about reliability and repairs down the road.
You can. Look around on here and there are to ton of messages about it. You can buy one up to the end of the factory warranty. I purchased from Flood Ford but I know there are other reputable ones.

Did you not go see one in person? Watch videos on YouTube? Who spends 40k sight unseen? That's on you.

Who's complaining?
Mainly people on the internet (youtube comments, forums), just a generalized everything is too damn expensive now feeling.

The hybrid Mav for $20K that never really existed was an extremely compelling vehicle, almost no one could buy it at MSRP, and now that production is meeting demand, Ford has raised the MSRP again for 2025. Seeing the 20K truck to double to 40K just makes them angrier.

Personally I was just upset with the insane dealer markups when supply was low which forced me to drive a car I really didn't want to for another year until I could buy the truck at a price that wouldn't leave me way underwater on a loan right out the gate. It's the number of $50k+ vehicles on the road that annoy me, along with rising numbers of uninsured drivers that have pushed insurance rates sky high.

As for legacy automakers largely abandoning cheap vehicles (~20K or less) that are high volume low margin for expensive low volume high margin vehicles, guess we'll see what happens. Without tariffs cheap Chinese EVs would flood the market and probably put everyone out of business in an instant.

FYI, at that time there where none to be seen. None of the YouTube videos emphasized you can’t make a silk purse… I needed a toad and wanted something different. Who are you to criticize?

$50k is basically the new normal. My '00 F-150 had a window sticker (miraculously made it to me, and I was I believe the 3rd or 4th owner) of just over $26,000. Fast forward to today and that is equivalent to about $50,000. I just priced out what would be as close to that F-150 as possible as a brand new 2024, and it's actually cheaper than that at $47,950.

Every single review I've watched and read from 2022 says the same thing about the interior. Hard plastics everywhere, and the lariat doesn't fix it. It really just sounds like you liked the idea and dropped 40 grand without knowing what you're buying and then were surprised it wasn't a 40 grand interior despite every review saying so. Do research before you buy things, and if it's not out wait for it to be out. Jesus this is why modern products suck ass so much.

Also who am I? Same as you; I'm a Nobody. Which makes it worse, Because why is a nobody actually doing research before they drop 40 grand on something when you supposedly can't? Crazy world man.

I paid $21,700 for my new 22 xl ecoboost two years ago and $23,990 for my wifes new 24 xl hybrid a year ago ( a 23 rollover with personal offer), so that's two for $45,690. If something happened to one of them i would go out and buy a new 25 xl for $28,000. I still see the value.

This thread has been very interesting. As someone who ordered a '25 XLT Lux AWD 4K Tow, I've spent the past few months going round and round on whether I want to spend nearly $34k on a truck that was originally sold for under $20k. But then in look at the rest of the market, and there is not a single other vehicle that has the features I want at a remotely comparable price.

I've said it a dozen times - until there is actual, real competition for the Maverick, Ford is free to set whatever price they want. This is the first new vehicle I will have ever purchased, and I certainly wish I was paying under $30k, but I'm not. For me, I agree the Lariat is too much - but I didn't order a Lariat!

I've looked at used Ridgelines, which are the only other thing I'd consider for my needs - but the gas mileage is abysmal compared to the hybrid, and the interior, while nicer, isn't something I really enjoy looking at (same could be said for the Santa Cruz, though prices for that are stupid). It's all a matter of opinion, but let's not pretend there are any actual competitors for the Maverick right now.

I'm confident I'll be happy with my truck, and have a few annoyances (lots of plastic, touchscreen HVAC controls). But thats no different than my feelings toward my current cars (13 VW GTI - sagging headliner and lots of maintenance / '17 Subaru Outback - CVT Trans and garbage infotainment).

So the truck you're ordering didn't exist in 2022 and the truck your ordering wouldn't have been available at the $21,495 price point. There was never at $20k Maverick because destination charge is not optional.

Oh I agree with you, and one of the few perks of waiting until now was that I could get an AWD hybrid. And yes, of course destination fees change that price. My point is simply that while I'm not happy with the pricing, there really isn't anything out there that competes, and until something does, the prices will keep going up!
