I actually considered it. The Maverick I want is basically fully optioned out (Lariat, hybrid, AWD, 4K tow, moonroof) and that's only because the Lariat is now the only way to get dual zone auto climate. Otherwise I'd be content with an XLT Lux. But the Lariat in that configuration rings up at $40,865.Everyone talks like getting a ranger is some huge upgrade for a few grand more.
A Ranger with the key features I do want (power seat and dual zone auto climate) would be an XLT High (301A) with basic trailer tow package and rings up at $42,685.
That's "only" $1,820 more, but it really depends on what one's needs are. The Ranger can tow more and has low range. The Maverick can get 35+ MPG, 500+ miles per tank, and is AWD.
Up until my Nissan Frontier, the only pickups I had were all full-size, and I thought I'd struggle with the Frontier's 5' bed. But my F-250's 8' bed only came in handy for me about once a year. Other than that, there are very few instances where the 5' bed was a problem, and I'd be okay losing another 6" of bed and the ability to tow a car on a flat-deck trailer in exchange for basically doubling my cruising range and fuel economy.I'm coming from a 2014 King Ranch F150 that I dont use to its full capability any more. I looked at replacing it with a 2024 King Ranch because all I've ever owned is full size pickups. But at 18mpg and an almost $80k price tag it would be foolish. Yeah, maybe the "value" of my ordered 2025 Hybrid AWD Mav isn't worth $40k, but what else would I buy that gets 40mpg, has AWD for midwest winters and Colorado ski trips, while also giving me the truck bed I don't want to live without?
I did the utility trailer thing for a bit. I'd rather have a $40K Mav than an SUV with a utility trailer. The truck saves me time since I have the flexibility of completing jobs in whatever order other than having to loop back home to drop or hook the trailer. As a counter, my neighbor picked up a '24 JGC Limited for $40K...$14K off sticker. I'd buy that and get a utility trailer over a $40K Mav.
I suppose it also allows me to be a bit spontaneous. If I get done early and thus have time to get that repaired part from my friend's shop on the way home, well again I can just toss it in the back of the truck rather than having to drive home, hook the trailer, and drive effectively halfway back to wherever I'm at.
