I get it, 40k is a lot of money, the interior is from a $20,000 vehicle, and the lariat is just putting lipstick on a pig etc. etc.

but I'm going to list things I need in a vehicle, and try to come up with something for me.
-has a bed for dirt/mulch etc so it doesn't get in the cab. (my wife likes to garden and we have a decently big property to do work on)
-gets good gas mileage because my wife and I live outside the city and commute about 60 miles to work one way
-has a good ride quality/decent handling. I've daily driven sports cars my whole life so I have some expectation that it doesn't drive like complete crap like a "real" truck.
-leather/pleather seats for ease of cleaning. we have a dog and scrubbing mud out of cloth seats sucks ass.
-has 4-5k towing capabilities for a trailer to do home renos/dump runs etc.
-is less than $50k.
-AWD for winter driving
-is small enough to park in the city easily, good turning radius etc.

Literally, the ONLY vehicle that currently exists which fits that arbitrary list of criteria is the 2025 maverick lariat hybrid/awd. The xlt doesn't come with pleather seats, 2024 models don't come awd and hybrid, any crossover/suv isn't going to have a seperate area for dirt so it's going to end up all over the cabin. Any "real" truck is going to be too big, too fuel hungry and crap to drive.

Everyone talks like getting a ranger is some huge upgrade for a few grand more. It's a completely different class of vehicle. It's like asking why someone bought a miata when they could have bought a duramax because you can't haul 20 sheets of plywood in a miata. Like maybe the "more capable" vehicle is actually worse in the ways that matter to that person, and much more inconvenient in other ways? Anyways I'm just tired of hearing about this and wanted to get your guys thoughts.

Paid 37k for my 22 with just about every option available. The only disappointment I had was with the early recalls and I expected more from the B/O sound system.

Wife wanted sunroof, keyless entry, and push button start, I wanted AWD and tow package.

Then I said F*** it, and put the air design hood scoop on it, weather tech tri fold tonneau cover, and many other things.

In total I've got about 40k in it, and I absolutely love it.

I've always had base model cars. I drove a manual with crank windows just 12 years ago. So this is fantastic to me and I wouldn't change a thing.

Doesn't matter what you spend long as your get what you want. People complain because they have nothing better to do. Humans are the most arrogant, whiny, ignorant group that has ever existed. As one said above people want a cheap truck but complain it's too cheap and they want better quality they then complain it's too expensive. If someone can afford to pay more people say why spend that on such and such when you could pay a little more and get whatever. That's life.

If I actually need a big truck ( which is doubtful ) I'll rent one . home depot has p-up for rent ( $20). Mav meets my needs at this point .

It’s a truck capable of optioning to your hearts content. I’m perpetually cheap and went for the least expensive. 2022 stripped xl out the door for $18950.
a neighbor just took delivery of a 2024 loaded XLT for almost double what I paid.
We both got what we wanted!

Yep, but then the XL/XLT people come on the forums asking how they can add the Lariat features after the fact and find that they can't or the ones they can are even more expensive than getting the Lariat to begin with.
even worse than that was in MY22 there was a lariat without the lux package. it was weird, no adaptive cruise or B&O stereo. 18" wheels and activex / pleather seats was the package, basically.

you got all the goodies with lariat lux.

then in MY23, in the midst of major supply chain issues, Ford decided to split lariat lux into 2 pieces, and adaptive cruise was a separate option called 'copilot 360 assist' which I am guessing helped their constraints... but really screwed numerous lariat lux owners who thought they were getting ACC.

that's the real reason I think it's fine for lariat (and now Tremor) to have everything. might as well, and you can be sure that no one is missing a feature. it's all there, lol.

fair enough. no heated seats or steering wheel, right? I could go either way on those with cloth seats, but with (p)leather, heat is nice.

I purchased 24 Tremor Lariet with moonroof . This is my first new vehicle ever . I get a good discount through my job .
I wanted a compact pickup , and able to pull a small fishing boat . But with some back and hip issues this is perfect for me size wise . Ranger or 150 to hard to get in and out
I've added a bunch of accessories to it raising price more .
But being my first new vehicle I didnt just settle for what was available
Ordered and was willing to waite
I'm happy with my choice .

I couldn't agree more. I have had a Ranger, Colorado, F150, and a Nissan Frontier. They are all good mid size trucks. But the Maverick is the ONLY one that delivers where it counts...in my wallet: GREAT MPG! This truck "Maverick Hybrid" does everything an average truck owner needs who is not regularly hauling huge payloads. It is the best pick up I have ever owned. My question is why has it took the automobile industry so long to produce a Pick up truck that can get 38-44 MPG's ? Hybrid technology has been around since the late 1990's maybe earlier.

I personally bought a maverick tremor , because thats what i wanted .
Who in your life matters enough to worry about on monetary subjects other than your wife?
If your that worried in your head about it buy a xlt and buy a set of seat covers or full seat upholstery ( 600-800) and swap out factory fabric , at that point order seat heater pads from summit and for a little more work and $300 you can have 4 heated seats.
Or just buy what you want .

Im probably more inclined to a ridgeline at this $40k price point to meet all that criteria.
turning radius is a little wider, proper $40k interior, 5k towing, has that unibody ride quality, honda reliability

but if you dont mind low 20's mpg its gonna be better in everyway

I’m right there with you. Before I learned about the Maverick, I was looking at Rivian R1T’s, as I have 36 solar panels on my house and can afford to send 10,000 kWh per year to an EV without raising my electric bill. But, the Rivian electric pickup was too expensive. Even used. And the insurance would have been way more expensive. And EV SUV’s didn’t give me the dirt proof and water proof storage tray that pickups have.

I ended up buying a ā€˜24 ecoboost because I have to have awd for snow in the winter and for going off-road to camp and to go mountain biking. I bought in July ā€˜24, before they announced the ā€˜25 awd hybrid. If I was buying now, that is exactly what I would get.

And I am in full agreement about the lariat. Between the B&O sound system, the better infotainment system, the driver’s aids, like lane keep, adaptive cruise, etc., and the nicer looking interior, there’s no other way I would get a Maverick. I’m not a kid anymore. I want a nice drive, not a rock bottom cheap drive.

exactly. I am not trying to justify the difference between a Maverick lariat and xl. I just look at the features of the lariat, the value to me, and price of the vehicle compared to alternatives.

let's assume a bed is mandatory because while I get it, people do consider SUVs and wagons instead of a truck, if we assume you really want/need a bed that makes the value of a 40k Maverick so much more obvious.

If I had to tow 4k+ regularly I would buy a '25 Ranger XLT 2.7 4x4 with tech and towing pack, because it comes with adaptive cruise and protrailer, just like a Maverick lariat. I'm fine with cloth instead of leather, prefer it honestly. except! ... it's $45.5k. A Maverick ecoboost lariat is $38.6k and of course you'll get better mpg when not towing, when you're driving a truck that weighs almost a thousand pounds less.
