Over the years I've been insured with just about all of the companies operating in Ontario. I've switched most of the time for better rates, although I did switch when my b*stard agent had the cops search my house when my stereo was stolen a lot of years ago. I used to be insured by Intact (Dutch company), until they gave me two wildly different rates for two of the same vehicle. My sister used to work for State Farm, and would never use them today. All of these big insurance monopolies are just ripoff engines. For the last 6 years I have been insured by CAA insurance (Canada) and pay for the distance travelled. Since CAA and AAA are connected at the hips, I'd bet that AAA also have similar insurance plans. This year I pay CDN$58 per 1000km driven, or about $650 for the year in my case. That's about half of what the big boys charge.

The ultimate protection like I have done is have assets in a LLC.
Speaking as an attorney (bankruptcy, at that), I'll simply state that LLCs don't protect nearly as much as the folks selling them or using them think they do.

Yes, the sole remedy for a judgment against you is a "charging order", but that makes it trivial to stop you from taking money out, although it take more work to stop you from using the assets for personal use without paying.

And in some states, a single member LLC can be effectively disregarded by creditors!

And they decided that a viable way of making that money was to provide insurance services.
Generally speaking, they don't make much, if anything, on the insurance services themselves.

Rather, they make money by investing the premiums while waking to pay back out.

Yep it's amazing how many people do not carry replacement cost riders and then cannot make the deductible portion of the repairs don't do anything so fall into the trap. It's even much worse without the replacement rider. The insurance company pays what's due under policy but cannot tell homeowner when and how to repair/replace. Depends but lots of times the owner never notifies ins company that repairs so he never collects depreciations that he is due. My son recently had a $2.2 million property with a 5% deductible ($110,000). Property only had $92k damage.
house insurance is tricky. So many different forms on the market and too many shady agents selling inadequate policies. I normally have to sit down and explain why cheap house insurance doesn't fully cover your needs incase of a claim. Then they realize you pay for what you get when they file a claim and have very little coverage.

This reminds me of a situation we had recently. My wife and I own two homes. When we bought the second house a few years ago our agent shared we needed a different type policy for it, which was more expensive than our main homes policy. Not knowing alot about insurance, I took their word for it, and just paid it.

Last spring the main sewer line between that house and the street collapsed requiring $16k in work to replace it. I assumed it wouldn't be covered, but reached out to my agent just to make sure.

Turns out that houses policy had coverage for sewer and water mains and the repair was covered. It was a very nice surprise.

It worked out the opposite for us luckily, as we were also ignorant of what we were paying for, but it very well can make a big difference when you actually need it.

Hello,,
I am very close on closing on a 2025 Maverick and checked with State Farm about the insurance of a 2025 Maverick XL, AWD, Hybrid. Almost fell out of my chair when I received the quote. It was originally $ 284.77 and it was then reduced to $ 212.68 which is still very very expensive.
On my current policy with 2 cars (2018 Passat and a 1990 LS400) plus two motorcycles I pay less than that - also with the same State Farm agent. Of course they sent me the typical excuse about all of the safety features cost replacement etc.

Was wondering if this is a general issue with the Maverick or if State Farm is trying to take advantage of the situation? Would be interesting to know who much you guys pay on full coverage and a $ 500.00 deductible?

Thanks,
Mario
Wow that is a high cost for one vehicle. Esp a truck. Ehere are you located zip code?Have to wonder about all those posted totaled on the forum and outside just caught up. Any damage near the 'bed' is totalled automatically and full payout? If you're financing they will sell you on the gap insurance.

I had an agent who used the "underwear/sock" drawer example and let the buyer determine which policy he wanted to purchase. How many pair do you own? 40-80-?. If tornado comes by and they disappear what would it cost to replace at MSRP not sale price? That's what the adjuster will put on the claim if you have replacement cost rider). (Best to have annual picture of all pair lying on bed, of course). This could easily be 80x $9.95 or more. Yes you could replace them on sale but the savings would help pay your deductible!!!🤔🤔🤔. My brother would actually take a picture of his socks on the bed and the bottom rows were the old ones and the top rows were the new ones.

I was paying 183. A month for 3 cars I replaced my k2500 with the 24 Maverick lariat Eco and it went to 253 a month ( full coverage) in CT so it went up 70 a month or 840 for the year ( 300k/300k )

Forget any large Insurance Companies like State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, etc. Try to locate a smaller firm that covers your State only, possibly also a couple of surrounding Ststes. Hopefully you don’t live in FL! If you live in VA I suggest you contact Rockingham!
