I like the rubbermaid leakproof flip top mugs rather than bottles, because you can open them one handed by flipping open with your thumb, that leaves your other hand free for your burger and your knees free to steer.
Safety first!

I haven't noticed this using the water bottle for water. Guessing Wal-Mart did the recall in an abundance of caution, even though any sealed container with a lid on it can "forcefully eject" when gasses expand inside.

I just like the bottles with a plain lid because they are simple and easy to clean, plus the 24oz Ozark Trail one is the Goldilocks size to snap into the Maverick door. Seems like the newer ones with straws and spigots are more likely to accumulate bacteria.

Ah the infamous water bottle Ford sent to some customers in 2022 for free due to the long wait times on orders placed. It doesn't fit in the door water bottle holders. :ROFLMAO:
NOTHING fits in the door bottle holders. At least, not without flying out when you close the door. WTF did they have in mind? Also, WTF are the raised tabs hidden toward the back of the door pocket supposed to hold?!

If they hadn't embossed a bottle icon on the panel, no one would have noticed. They would've just thought, "Hey, storage space." But doesn't a 1-liter (16.9 ounce) regular bottle fit? Silly me, I don't mess with putting drinks in the door. I use the cupholder in the console.

The 24oz Ozark Trail bottle fits in there tight. With the door open, if the whole truck was violently shook, I would wager $1,000 the door would come off before the bottle popped out.

I got mine back in 2022 a few months after I took delivery of my first Mav. I immediately put it on eBay and it sold in minutes for a very nice 3 digit price. If you keep a gift from Ford that doesn't actually fit in the door slot it is supposed to instead of profiting from it, that's on you! Trust me, if I still had it, it would be on the top shelf of my kitchen cabinet along with all the other water jugs we never touch.

I keep a pair of shop gloves in there, works great.
yes, but what did the designers INTEND for that space to be? I have found no mention of it. Or the reason behind the crappy door bottle holder design.
(all they had to do was make the lower lip a few inches taller and bottles wouldn't fall out when you close the door. They could have eliminated that horrible "some bottles fit" protrusion halfway up, so most bottles would fit and stay put)

You'll have to find the designer, everyone has different ideas, but only they know. Other than the bottle holder the design/marketing team never mentioned the other door storage features in interviews.

For the door bottle holder many seem to find questionable, I would again bet money what happened is someone had a bike water bottle (which are more or less the same circumference to fit in standard'ish size cages), and someone told a designer to make that snap in the door instead of rolling around and rattling when you set in there. I don't think it's really designed to hold anything smaller vertically.

Kinda limiting of course, but it didn't cost Ford anything to add a hump to the door mold, and the marketing worked as intended with so many reviewers calling the interior clever, even if some of the storage doesn't work so amazing in practice.
