Post # 155 covers it all.
There was a zip code in Tampa Florida north of TIA. A Hispanic community overall. The highest rates anywhere.
Why ?
Insurance fraud. Contractors had to remove their magnetic signs when going in those hoods.
Or the Hispanics would hunt them down, cut them off, get in front of them and slam on the brakes then grab their neck screaming in pain.
They would often settle out of court.
True story, went on for years.
On the third time for one Mom who put her two kids in the back seat she went to jail.
For about two hours. Then walked.

I live in central VA...$640/6 months. Clean driving record, good credit. Been with USAA for 30+ years. They're service is top notch.

I reduced it to get an affordable rate.
Both of you are right. If you don’t have any assets and your income is low, buying the bare minimum insurance makes the most sense.

But, if you have a good job and you injure someone in an at-fault accident, their lawyers will be coming for your current assets and your future income.

Last year I paid $1600/ $250 deduct for the 23 Mav and scooter for 12 months fully covered. When you do that(if you can), you save like 30%. I'm here in Texas too, we have very high insurance.

using credit scores when they have a long history of your driving history is ridiculous.
that's a reasonable starting assumption, but the data just doesn't bear it out.

Your driving history has very little to do with whether you have an accident or other loss covered by comp or UI. It presumably has a lot to do with your liability, as reflected in the explanatory pages telling you exactly how much.

My unverified hypothesis is the bit about who files claims, and who just fixes it to avoid the claim.

AFAIK, no place uses history more than 3 years old (except of DUI/reckless?)

They look at people as individuals and vehicles as a whole. Credit will play a small portion in rating along with motor vehicle history for the individual. . Tickets accidents claims are very large factors along with the type of vehicle, the amount of sensors on your vehicle the package your vehicle carries. The amount of accidents that specific model has received, the amount of damage, the amount of times the vehicle was totaled. Not to mention your address, traffic patterns, amounts of accidents in proximity to your dwelling what type of occupation you carry. Distance to and from work distance driven annually. They look at alot of factors when figuring rates now all thanks to data sharing.

Your credit score tells a lot about how responsibly you act.

Someone with poor impulse control or poor executive planning skills is more likely to mess up their credit. Likewise, that’s a recipe to end up causing an at-fault accident as well.

I had no idea that your credit score is used to determine your insurance premiums. But once you said it and I thought it through, it made total sense.

In my case, I almost always have a ticket or two on my driving record because I always speed, and motorcycle cops with laser guns are really hard to thwart. I’ve even been ticketed twice and convicted once of reckless driving, for doing a big smoky burn out in a Mustang and for doing a 1/4 mile long wheelie on an April RSV 1000.

But I have never had an at-fault accident in 38 years of driving.

My driving record does not correlate with how much insurance companies have had to pay out for my actions.

Hello,,
I am very close on closing on a 2025 Maverick and checked with State Farm about the insurance of a 2025 Maverick XL, AWD, Hybrid. Almost fell out of my chair when I received the quote. It was originally $ 284.77 and it was then reduced to $ 212.68 which is still very very expensive.
On my current policy with 2 cars (2018 Passat and a 1990 LS400) plus two motorcycles I pay less than that - also with the same State Farm agent. Of course they sent me the typical excuse about all of the safety features cost replacement etc.

Was wondering if this is a general issue with the Maverick or if State Farm is trying to take advantage of the situation? Would be interesting to know who much you guys pay on full coverage and a $ 500.00 deductible?

Thanks,
Mario
Interesting. I'll be watching this to compare my insurance when my truck arrives. I'm hoping for a good rate.

My son, an insurance adjuster working about 85% of time for property policies insured by one company has nothing to do with determining rates other than determining damage. When he is working a claim for damages he has access to the claim history of the property. It is amazing how many people try to claim hail damage which was paid for by a prior claim either by the current owner or even a prior owner. He can find the same hail damage in some of the current 200-300 pictures he takes which are in the same shingles taken by previous adjusters even for different insurance companies working their claim. The roof was paid for once. If a claimant has fresh damage and aged damage which is obvious by aging, the claimant may be required to make two or three claims for damage from different storms. The prior claims then are verified by Doppler radar records of prior wind or hail. Each claim has its own separate deductable. Etc, etc, etc.....

If you are sued and have no assets to seize they can and will garnish ALL future earnings including Social Security.
Do you sell insurance? SS can't be touched. (if it is still around)

Where do you come up with this?Credit score is how responsible you are. I am an attorney with no credit score. Very responsible. Credit is for people that don't have Money not how responsible they are.

Home owners should have a minimum of $300,000 per.

Ohh yea I run into this alot. I'm a sales rep but I have other family in claims and underwriting. The problem is insurance companies will send out checks knowing very well the person won't fix the damage. When they try to file an other claim they get denied and half the time nonrenwed. Then they try to go get insurance elsewhere and get denied. That history follows you everywhere!
