Don't know about other states, but many of the new highways being built in Texas are now tollroads with EZ Tag (no cash)...

If lawmakers were serious about plugging the gigantic hole in gas tax revenue, I could take the hybrid/EV fees seriously. But as it stands it’s just a cheap ploy to dunk on hybrid/EV drivers in largely pro O&G states

That's what happens when you have low taxes. Roads gotta be built somehow.

Also those companies profit way past what they put into it. It's gross.

I have high taxes and some of the worst roads in the nation. If you follow the buck, you'll discover just where your money goes.

Does the Maverick with the base Hybrid engine being offered qualify for any federal tax credit? From what I can tell, this only applies to for EV and Plug-In Hybrids, but I hope I'm wrong.
No, full plugins only. Hybrids such as the Prius were expressly written out in the bill. Sucks since I would think they would like to encourage hybrids but Congress, in its usual ignorance, chose otherwise.

No Hybrid rebate in PA, but you will save more, if you are using it.

Historically gasoline taxes are user taxes. That is, the more gasoline you purchased, the more you drove and used the roads. Therefore you paid your fair share for the roads. With the advent of non traditional propulsion systems, taxing authorities needed to adjust. Seems fair. The notion that we need to give a special break for a certain type of propulsion system is a different topic. What should concern you is that every user of the roads pays their share.

Interesting. The finance guy at Ford told me the Maverick would qualify for a $4,500 tax credit.

The deal was done; I was signing the paperwork. There was no need to lie to me at that point.

Your mistake was taking tax recommendations from a salesman and not a CPA.

Woefully misinformed there. Not even sure where they got the $4,500 from.

Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning were always eligible for the full $7,500. Escape PHEV was $6,843, though it seems there's no graduated scale anymore so it should also get $7,500. (All figures are non-refundable tax credits that you need to owe enough to be able to claim the full amount, see your tax pro for guidance, yada yada.)

The tax credits are to incentivize alternative fuel sources. Meaning you actively fill it with energy from a source that is not gasoline or diesel, whether by filling it with hydrogen, electricity from a plug, etc.

PHEV can be driven around on electricity from a plug alone, for shorter trips.

Hybrids still rely fully on gas, they're just more efficient at it, so no incentive. No higher registration costs in some states, so there's that...

It was the finance guy, not a salesman. And it had no bearing on me buying the truck. So he lied/misinformed in vain. 😊
