VW uses a slightly more complicated valve on their sunroof drains - I removed them from our Golf some time ago and they have not clogged since. Typical of VW the valve was clearly a technically correct yet overcomplicated solution to a problem.

It looks like a royal pain in the butt to do this on the Mav - if I had to do this I might just snip the tip of the duckbill valve off so it never happened again. I think the purpose of these valves is to keep insects from crawling up into the valve.

Is there really no way to reach it from inside and blow some air through it?

I just drilled a 1” hole right about here, so I can access it with ease now. My cabin filter was dry though.

Appreciate the video. Will need to give this a check on my truck. Have not had any issues, but would be good to check and make sure it is drained out!

What would cause the clog?

My 25 EB always leaves a puddle of water condensate on the ground after the high idle. Tucson where AC gets 10/12 month usage. Did not even turn the heat on once this last winter.

I don’t turn AC on until after high idle and driving for a bit - but notice the puddle if I go back into house for something I forget.

Could have been dust buildup over time or algae. I live in a high humidity area and run AC constantly. The rubber cover has a very narrow flap, didn’t take much to stop it up.

There are some A/C system cleaning products that are meant to help clear up issues like this. Typically they are sprayed as a foam in behind the cabin air filter and drawn in to clean the coils and washed out with the condensate, which also cleans the drain line. Even with very large drain lines the biofilm will eventually clog it, this happened with my basement dehumidifier which drains via a garden hose.

I subbed to your YouTube channel and followed the whole storyline on the transmission. Great respect for the follow-thru on that…
I think we both knew what would happen when you pinched that outlet on the condensation drain.. LOL. I could almost feel the rush of cold water and guck running down your arm all the way to the pit!

Another one of these things where a lot of people just take it to the stealership. That way Ford makes some additional money on service / repairs.
I am very thankful for the OP and others who provide solutions to somewhat simple issues.

Had some water on the floor so took the opportunity to change the cabin air filter and clear the AC drain. Had a LOT more water in the box than what I expected.

Fantastic video thank you for explaining where the drain is and how to get to it.

I wonder if it would be easier to remove the cowl area to get to the air intake, have system set to recycle mode and hope that really closes off the ductwork, and figure out a cap to air intake to apply pressure to the whole thing thu a compressor, even tire inflator.

Unless you cut the duck bill, seems like this will keep happening due to releasing water above the heat shield. During any slow season with little condensate needing to come out, just seems a great recipe for problems.

Mice in thru the top, bugs thru the bottom.

Did they really find evidence of massive bug problems on the evaporators in past vehicles to need that solution...

Put a little 1-way spinning wheel in the water exit tube - create some electricity off it to charge the HVB. LOL
