I know - that is crazy! That's like a 42% mark-up. I wonder if they will throw in oil changes?
At least they oughta supply lube when they are gonna stick it to you like this!😲

I was in the car business for 15 years.

I would suggest both these gents follow up on the leads that have been posted here for dealers who will sell at MSRP. Then I would negotiate an order from one of THOSE dealers. Then with a signed Buyer's Order in hand for MSRP go to the orginal dealer and ask for a signed buyer's order for the truck you spec'ed out with them. They will likely refuse.

Both @clippedwings and @olderbudwiser went to their dealers to solidify their orders and prices. It seems like both came away with assurances but no Buyer's Order signed by both parties.

No, sorry. A dealership can't run that way.

If there is no signed buyer's order and deposit attached to the order it never happened.

How would they even know who the truck belonged to, or how much to charge? Is Gen Z salesperson supposed to remember?

The person I worked with to cut my deal over the phone is likely Gen Z. It seemed perfectly normal from her point of view to just text back-and-forth. Paperwork was probably just a necessary annoyance

According to what you’re saying, the dealer has all this paperwork, but feels no need to share any of it with me, the buyer? I have to hound the dealer to give me a receipt that shows I have just put $500 down, and have committed to spend $30,000 more? In spite of the constant claim, "Don’t worry. You WILL get your truck" something smells wrong here. I am still reading about people who just placed an order a day or two ago, and received a confirmation from Ford the next day. I have never received any acknowledgement from Ford, except on two calls, where they acknowledged that I am “in the system" - whatever that means. One of those people promised me an email three days after my call. That never happened. This whole system just stinks. I actually feel stupid for letting myself get caught up in it. I’m not desperate for a vehicle. It’s just my usual 5-year purchase cycle, and this time the needs of my business require a small pickup, and frankly, all the small and mid-size offerings kinda suck at present, so I keep telling myself to hang in there.

It sounds like you are worried about two different things:
(1) Was your order actually submitted to Ford?, and
(2) Do you have a contract that will require the dealer to sell it to you at the agreed price?

If you called Ford and they said they had your order in the system, then the order probably got placed as your dealer claims.

As for having a contract... the semi-legible and unsigned document images you describe make that really hard to figure out. I can't tell from your earlier description of events, but if you went to the dealer and asked for a signed contract and they wouldn't give you one... well... that would worry me.

There is no signed contract. Just hand-scribbled figures on preview orders texted over a phone. They did give me a printout of one of them when I went in. It contains the hand-written number of my OTD price - basically the figure of, invoice + $500….the deal I negotiated at the start. Since the figures are hand-written by the dealership, and this is a photocopy of that doc given to me at the dealership, I consider this to be a binding document. I also received a photo copy of the text form of the DORA, taken from their records. I was also given a billing showing my $500 deposit, and the ridiculous, illegible buyer’s Order Agreement, shown here, which I was told was the order submitted to Ford. Something I never saw and certainly didn’t sign. I believe I have enough here to establish the agreed-upon deal, if necessary. I would like to hear from one of the dealers who frequent these forums on their recommendations as to just how to conduct a deal over the phone, and how the pertinent docs and procedures would differ from doing this at the dealership

That would be interesting to know. I've never done that with a car.

I've done mineral interest deals in about the same price range over the phone, though. The usual process was one party creates signs the document, scans it and sends it to the other. The second party then prints it out, signs it, scans it, and sends it back. Seems to satisfy everybody.

(Doesn't work too well if your only scanner is your phone, though. Never comes out well.)

I would assume that would be the procedure. I certainly have the necessary hardware. The dealer made no move to follow those procedures. This is the first time I’ve ever purchased a vehicle without leaving my house, but that’s no excuse. I should have driven the 75 miles to the dealership to follow up with actual paperwork, but frankly, It didn’t seem necessary. That was really stupid on my part. Maybe I’m just used to not leaving my house for the last two years!

I'm further north and have read other of your posts. I'm gathering from them that you didn't get satisfactory service there and so went to Albuquerque. I filled out a reservation on line of a truck I wanted. Days later Capital called me and told me it would be spring. I went even further north and ordered on July 2nd from Raton. Delivered Oct. 15th. I was planning on going to Santa Fe for service, but you have raised my concerns. Any comments would be appreciated.

Did the dealer place the order in your name or the dealers name?

My dealer told me that orders placed by a buyer have priority over dealer placed orders.

I just saw that today. This is the dealer I ordered from. My out the door price on an XLT with the XLT luxury pkg and 360 is about 28K and I was told that was all it would be. Fingers crossed.

I have now had 3 seperate Ford dealers that have all had a $5k markup on the stock price. One dealer I had been emailing and the salesperson never mentioned the markup. I drove 45 minutes with intent to buy until I saw the sticker and handwritten $5k markup. Needless to say the sales guy and I got into it in the lot. I got home and promptly wrote a bunch of 1 star reviews detailing the "bait & switch" tactics.
