I have now had 3 seperate Ford dealers that have all had a $5k markup on the stock price. One dealer I had been emailing and the salesperson never mentioned the markup. I drove 45 minutes with intent to buy until I saw the sticker and handwritten $5k markup. Needless to say the sales guy and I got into it in the lot. I got home and promptly wrote a bunch of 1 star reviews detailing the "bait & switch" tactics.
Wow that's so f#cked up!!! They had the balls to quickly jack up the price one line the msrp price and hand written an extra 5k to it!? How disgraceful 😠

The funny thing is that Ford could put an end to this immediately if they wanted to. Sadly they don't care enough to do anything about it.

I'm further north and have read other of your posts. I'm gathering from them that you didn't get satisfactory service there and so went to Albuquerque. I filled out a reservation on line of a truck I wanted. Days later Capital called me and told me it would be spring. I went even further north and ordered on July 2nd from Raton. Delivered Oct. 15th. I was planning on going to Santa Fe for service, but you have raised my concerns. Any comments would be appreciated.
I would rate Capitol Ford as average. I have spent MANY hours in their waiting rooms over the past 5 years. If you need any kind of inspection/diagnosis/maintenance, plan to be there at least half a day. They have been able to resolve some issues, but not all. Typical I guess, since one of the biggest challenges for Dealers these days is finding competent, well-trained technicians. A larger dealership in Albuquerque seemed more capable, but it's a 150 mile round trip. You usually end up going to your closest dealer because it's just too impractical not to.

Thanks, I'm 90 min from Alamosa Ford, mostly straight track, about the same to Santa Fe, mountain track, so might try Colorado.

Looks like Ford isn’t the only ones marking up their trucks!

Ya like that “market adjustment,” which I think the dictionary defines as a dealer greed tax. Hey, more power to them. If somebody wants a truck with surprisingly terrible gas mileage, then they’re going to have to fork out the $$$.

Guess Hyundai didn’t get the memo that this isn’t a Mav. 🤣😂🤣

(honestly, this is about 3 miles up the road. I might head up there and take it for a spin. I was lucky enough to be able to test drive a Mav last week. I’m curious how the two stack up.)

Might as well get prepared to spend way too much for this little guy right up front. MPG's are gonna get you in the long run, but dealer is gonna get ya right off the bat!

I don't believe they can. I'm sure the contracts between dealers and manufacturers lay out the long establish practices between the two. What the manufacturer can do, as seen by I believe Dodge in the past for one of their special models, is to tell dealers that anyone selling with dramatic markups will have their allocation of cars affected.

It is called MSRP because of lost lawsuits in the past where items of all types cars, refrigerators, light fixtures, etc were priced and the retailers were not allowed to sell for less or they would be cut off from future purchases. Class action suits established the set up we have today. Some products can have pricing restrictions placed on them and the work around to the retailer is to NOT ADVERTISE the product at other than list price. This is why some products online you have to PUT THE ITEM IN YOUR CART to see the price. That is the negotiating in private with the retailer which cannot be controlled by the manufacturer. Fear of price fixing lawsuits work around can be why you don't see "2.5% less than MSRP" ads but you might see "2.5% less than invoice" (a price that is not generally known and possibly be different by retailer maybe indicated by "price plan").

You're referring to MAP, Minimum Advertised Pricing, which allows a dealer to sell a product below msrp but not advertise it at that price.

The legal landscape on MSRP and price-fixing changed in 2007. It's too complicated for me to try to explain here, but there is a decent explanation on the Federal Trade Commission's website at Manufacturer-imposed Requirements | Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov)

Markups are just insane to me, living in Hawaii i expect higher prices here and there but when its a common item like a car i cannot abide a huge price difference.

Luckily my local dealership took off the markup after i asked. Otherwise i would have just bought on the mainland and shipped it, adding even more time to deliver.

We are not stuck with just one dealership, order from someone else and pay a few hundred to get it shipped over to you. There are good dealerships out there, make sure they get your business.
