I hate the expression "It is what it is," but it fits with the resale of any sort of desired item. It is tempting to think that Mav fans are just in it together and altruistically look out for other fans, but money on the table says otherwise. It is also true that no one is forcing you to buy it from someone who is marking it up sharply. If it is worth that to you, then so be it.
how about "whatever the market will bear" instead?

When looking at crude oil and wheat, yes. It is clearly what the market will bear, but when you have fandom involved, it isn't so clear. I see this with wristwatches, another commodity I periodically deal in. There you have the market price for a watch for laymen, the market price for 'people in the know,' the used price for laymen and used prices for collectors and insiders. All of them are different. Being considered in the club can sometimes get you a very good deal.
I could definitely see someone here extending a sweetheart deal to a fellow Mav lover.
