The person I worked with to cut my deal over the phone is likely Gen Z. It seemed perfectly normal from her point of view to just text back-and-forth. Paperwork was probably just a necessary annoyance

I tried to do it, with limited success. I believe I have enough documentation to establish that we agreed on an OTD price. I don't feel they are going to screw me. But even if they do, and even if they refuse to return my $500 deposit if I walk, it's no more than what I reluctantly pay Dish Network for two months of crap TV that my wife seems to need. It won't be the end of the world, and it will be a lesson on how NEVER to buy a vehicle again.
Even if you only have the basic order form if the vehicle arrives and they decide to play games you can demand that deposit back because you gave , and they accepted, your deposit based on the terms of your order at that time. The dealership changing the terms negates that agreement. You may not be able to buy the truck at the agreed price but they cannot now keep the deposit either.
Learned that ordering a new Suburban back in '94.

Surprised the deal wasn't worked out via interpretive dance over Tik Toc. 😂

That’s just wrong on so many levels. But somebody will probably pay that.
Exactly Jim, and that's what keeps dealers doing this. Myself, I don't care what a dealer ask for their vehicles. I can move on to another dealer. Heck, I would be hard pressed to even pay sticker price. :)

I ordered a base hybrid yesterday from Larson Ford in Lakewood, New Jersey. No dealer surcharge and they will honor 2022 price for 2023 models if delays continue until next Fall . No pressure Maverick specific salesman.

I’m 100% sure this is correct in Illinois- There’s a maximum of $303.60 that can be charged for dealer documentation fees. Even is they INSIST that they MUST charge that fee (I’m 95% sure that IS true), there’s nothing stopping them for reducing the cost of the vehicle by $303.60.
I know. I did it on a few new vehicles *not the Maverick
Just looked it up, this might still be relevant for Illinois:
https://illinoisdealers.com/dealer-services/faq/tax-procedures#:~:text=A DOCUMENT SERVICE FEE IS,1, 2020, WAS $300.
"A DOCUMENT SERVICE FEE IS NOT AN OFFICIAL FEE. A DOCUMENTARY FEE IS NOT REQUIRED BY LAW, BUT MAY BE CHARGED TO BUYERS FOR HANDLING DOCUMENTS AND PERFORMING SERVICES RELATED TO CLOSING OF A SALE. THE BASE DOCUMENTARY FEE BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2020, WAS $300. THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT THAT MAY BE CHARGED FOR A DOCUMENTARY FEE IS THE BASE DOCUMENTARY FEE OF $300 WHICH SHALL BE SUBJECT TO AN ANNUAL RATE ADJUSTMENT EQUAL TO THE PERCENTAGE OF CHANGE IN THE BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS CONSUMER PRICE INDEX. THIS NOTICE IS REQUIRED BY LAW."

And absolutely true, anyone can tell the dealership to pound sand on the fees by demanding they reduce the price of the vehicle to offset those doc fees.

500 over sticker and a 750 doc fee far as I'am concerned that's a rip-off, could of done much better.

I am still wondering why dealers are charging doc fees? Are all the information coming from our customers?
How accurate can they pass long the information to MVA or DMV?

Who is willing to post a copy of their contract with no doc fees?

Everywhere I have lived the past 20 years, dealers have charged doc fees.

I am one of the people who told them that processing paperwork is a cost of doing business. What's next, do you want me to help pay the light bill or pay for your old ladies boob job? The answer I always got is that if I didn't want to pay the doc fee I could walk, and several times I have.

We all know doc fees is just another term for dealer profit.

The nearby Ford dealer just built a very big and very expensive new showroom and service department. They relocated about a block from the old dealership to I-75 frontage. The overhead must be astronomical. They tack on thousands of dollars of fees and mandatory dealer installed options, IDK how they manage to sell a single vehicle, especially since there are three other dealerships within 30-ish miles that do not charge those fees and force you to buy their worthless options.

Demand is far outstripping supply for new vehicles right now, some dealers are playing the short game for maximum profit, while others are playing the long game for repeat customers.

Mullinax? They seem legit. Ordered my XL at MSRP in June. We will see.

This is what worries me. I'm afraid that despite ordering one, they'll still throw in an additional dealer markup to make up for lost sales and lack of inventory. But I've heard that if you order a vehicle, you have to get it as MSRP and nothing more. That's the rule. But that doesn't mean dealers won't follow the rules. I've heard of dealers marking up the price on pre-ordered vehicles. One good example is from Youtuber Pipsburgh Views who got charged $10,000 over MSRP on his pre-ordered Bronco and negotiated down to $5,000 over sticker, which is still shameful. I sure hope I'm not a victim of this because I really want this Maverick but I'm not willing to overpay for it. My dealer promises no dealer fees and upfront pricing so I really hope they follow up on it despite our crazy market right now.
