I originally had a reservation for a Maverick, but canceled it for a variety of reasons. I have felt that I am in a better spot lately and was starting to look around for a Maverick. I put myself on several dealers lists. Last week I was informed by a dealer that they had a hybrid XLT coming that afternoon, and would I like to take a look at it. I took time off work, and went. As it was coming off the truck, I spoke to the salesperson about financing. When I asked what the total price was going to look like, he shamelessly told me "Mid $40s".

$45,000 for a vehicle with an MSRP of around $26,000 is insane. You can almost buy a base model Maverick with that difference. Believe it or not, I understand a markup on a hot item, and would have been willing to pay up to around $29,000, but this type of outrageous greed is staggering. The salesperson claimed that the dealership had almost $40,000 into it, as if I don't know what the relationship between the dealer and the manufacturer is.

I know Ford is interested in knowing which dealers are cheating customers, does anybody know how to report it?

Supply and demand. With all the production and supply chain issues hitting all industries, everything is getting marked up, especially the hotter models like Maverick and Bronco. We are also facing inflation. Dealers don’t have cars on the lots like they used to. They have to increase their profit margins per car and desperate people are paying. Hopefully this situation doesn’t stay for too long. I am thinking it may get better in mid to late 2023.

Looking forward to all the folks who say "Well, the dealer offered me $10K more for my trade in than it's worth but I declined it because I didn't want to gouge them."

I won't hold my breath.

Car dealers are not hurting. Most of their profit is in used car sales, parts, service, financing and what ever the finance guy convinces the customer they need. Let's not forget the "mandatory" dealer add-ons such as nitrogen for the tires, window etching, protective coatings, etc. I almost left off the fake "doc" fees.

Many customers are ordering their vehicles online. Slimy salesmen are becoming obsolete. Walmart is always hiring...
