What is obvious to some is not always obvious to everybody. I know some people that I could see doing something like this. The majority of them being stereotypical are probably women but that doesn't mean a man not educated on cars couldn't make the same mistake.

There is nothing wrong with educating somebody when something like this happens. Saying things like if something like this happens again do X, Y and Z. While sprayed oil under the hood is blatantly obvious to you and me it may not be to others.

Comments by others using words like stupidity is just being rude! We have all done stupid things before maybe some of us worse or less, it doesn't matter. Show some respect to someone that shared their experience and politely educate them so that person and maybe others reading the post benefit from that knowledge.
But the issue here is the OP KNEW there was a problem.... Read all of his posts, as I wrote once to the OP, his posts don't help his cause.

I have been into a lot of fairly recent turbos and most still have bushings. The main reason idling recommendations are not specified is because people would just ignore it. I will agree that coolant cooled center sections are much better than the old oil only models but letting your turbo cool/spin down is still a good practice. This is why I detest the auto shot off crap that a lot of vehicles have these days.

while I agree a turbo needs some cool down after running the Ike Gauntlet everyday runs to the store/work/school pose no danger to modern turbos.

The Ford IOLM system is not just a simple oil quality sensor, but a software based, algorithm-driven device that takes into account various operating conditions of the engine to determine when the oil needs changing. Certain driving habits can affect the life of the oil, as well as driving conditions such as temperature and driving terrain. Lighter, more moderate driving conditions and temperature will require less frequent oil changes and maintenance, while more severe driving conditions will require more frequent oil changes and maintenance. Read the table below to see how Ford’s IOLM system determines oil life:

Thinking Ford only cares about surviving the warranty period is bull. It's just as important not to have engines failing shortly after it expires, reputation matters. Under normal conditions I will schedule my full synthetic oil change as soon as the first reminder pops up.

I get that but obviously he didn't think it was that bad. Idiot lights come on with vehicles all the time and a lot of the time it is minor.

I'm not so sure about that.

The OP thought it was serious enough to turn around and go as soon as possible to buy some oil. If he didn't think it was very bad he would have continued on in the same direction.

True, but we should all take note that in this case it was flashing.

A flashing CEL indicates a severe problem, one that requires immediate car repair. In other words, if your check engine light is flashing, pull over and call a tow service. Continuing to drive your car with a flashing CEL can cause irreversible damage to internal components.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you but, if you recall, the OP noted that there was no cell service at the location of the initial failure.

Now he's got a judgment call as to whether he stops driving and sits on the side of the road until someone capable of getting help comes along or tries to nurse it back to a gas station he know was there.

I don't know if I'd have made the same call but I wasn't there, don't know the location, and it wasn't my kids and wife sitting there so I'm not sure it's appropriate to criticize the call he made. I just hope he comes out of the experience whole.

Then why does the change oil light come on 1500 miles (or so) after an oil change without resetting the light? Would seem to be based on mileage.

On May 24 around 2pm on a sunny day at San Bernardino my Maverick truck unexpectedly caught on fire and explodes after it was leaking oil in the engine area. My family and I narrowly escaped the smoked filled cabin. Being a 2021 build and one of the few first owner of my wonderful truck, I’m still is a dazed on why my truck did this. I never had any issues and my truck build and was very reliable.

On May 24 my truck started to smoke on a mountain pass and I pulled over and popped the hood open. Oil was dripping off the ceiling of the hood but it was a small amount. So I turned around and that’s when the check engine light started to blink. No warning of the truck dashboard was advertised but only the change oil soon did since it was due for an oil change. I made it to a gas station and the smoke was minimal so I purchase a couple quarts and filled one quart in. I keep a funnel in the cubbies space of the engine bay . (In the fender wall) . Drove the Maverick to an empty parking lot so I can get it towed due to the smoke was getting heavy. As I parked the Maverick the cabin was filled with smoke and that’s when we decided to bail out of the Maverick and that when we saw fire erupting out of the outside of the windshield . As we ran away from the burning Maverick it exploded 3 times.

Oddly after the event I found my funnel about 15 ft away of My Maverick , my prize and joy never had an issue. Why did this happened??? We would almost became the few first fatality of Ford Maverick wonder but unpredictable 2.0 eco boost truck. I’m lost in words regarding of the incident. Is this a serious issue that will soon follow for future Maverick owners ?!?

What octane fuel were you using? Specifically, did you get gas somewhere at high altitude?

Well I just upgraded my rental to a 2023 F-150 and the difference with the Maverick is the compact truck feels more refined and the brakes are a bit touchy on the F-150. Well here is more pictures of my Maverick a few months ago when I got myself a Ford brand Tonneau using my ford pass points .. i wish I took more pictures on my Maverick
