I have a 22 FE Lariat Hybrid with a factory spray in and I use my bed for soccer equipment and groceries most of the time, home improvement many times, and bike hauling some of the time.

A receiver hitch bumper would only make things worse. The frame is made to crumple and protect the humans inside it. Those hitch bumpers only help in parallel parking bumps.
