Uncontained engine failure plus flammable/explosive environment?

I was hoping for a bilge blower and fire-suppression system, but I'll probably just get a holesaw through the underbody aero-shield that will whistle in the slipstream and some grill-shutter vanes removed.

Seriously, I have over 8000 miles on mine now, I changed the oil last week. Mine was dry, the shield had no stains or drips whatsoever.

Not worried at the moment, truck is doing great!
It will be inconvenient if the 12V cable issue bites me, but hopefully not.
I like the bilge blower.ha .. I think I'll just wait until the next service and not worry about it. Probably lose a mile per gallon when they cut holes in the front.

Let's call out some of the speculation around the Maverick Fire Risk recall and the Engine Failure question
Please let us know:

Has your Maverick caught fire?
Has your Maverick suffered a catastrophic engine failure - like a crank failure puncturing your engine.
Please show pictures if you have any.

I have personally not suffered any of this on my Maverick XLT Hybrid. And I bet it's practically not heard of except for the few already documented around the web - one looked on fire, the other that looked like a broken crank? Are there any more?
I think they calculated that 1.7 out of 10,000 vehicles would experience that, over their lifetime. I don’t know how that number compares to other catastrophic failu modes, or other vehicles. Even if you have that failure, you wouldn’t necessarily have a fire.

How many of you are familiar with the accident chain? It's a term used in aviation where a bunch of things have to all combine to end up with an accident. Remove one of those things and the accident doesn't happen.

From reading this thread, we need to have the following things:
  • Engine failure
  • Metal fragments from the engine failure puncturing protective material
  • Oil and gas leaking through that puncture
  • Hot exhaust system igniting the fluids
Essentially, someone would have to have extremely bad luck for all of those things to happen. It's like worrying about a metal beam falling and hitting your head as you walk by a construction site. Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely to? No.

Just get the repair done by the dealership when your recall letter arrives and stop stressing about it in the meantime.
Its possible all those things happened during a stress test Ford is/was doing on the Maverick 2.5l after release. The issue may have never occurred with with a private owners Maverick. This is Ford's attempt to avoid a possible failure.

I'm not sweating it. Like you said, I will get the fix done when I get the letter. This is the first recall that has impacted my Maverick. All things told thats pretty good for a first model year in my opinion.

8k Miles on my 2.5l and still going strong. Just fix the low speed braking issue Ford!

Nothing of that nature for sure. only issue I have had with my Maverick (hybrid) is the low speed brake issue, where it locks up at 3-5 MPH when making a gentle stop/slowing down.
Similar issue where at low speed breaking the breaks clunk suddenly. Doesn't lock up though

Yeah maybe a hard clunk is more accurate and a sudden stop. It really makes stop and go traffic incredibly tedious and a little scary.

I had this same issue with the brakes - turn down the auto collision alert to low sensitivity - that actually seemed to help my brake issue.

Most of the people actively having the discussion and being negative are the ones that have EcoBoost claiming that they now feel satisfied to have ecoboost, or those that haven't received one yet. That's fine, those of us that actually have the hybrid know how amazing it is

Maybe they're mistaking the hybrid with the entire rollout in general.

My engine is fine, but my windshield is cracked.
That happened to my EB Mav. Did you get a rock chip or was it a stress crack? I couldn't tell what caused mine which frankly still bugs me as the replacement is exactly the same.

I had a Honda Element, spontaneously combust and try to kill us. We loved up to that point. We barely escaped, the motor melted into a pool of aluminum and the tires and windows exploded, it was a fun vacation :( Turns out they made that motor with a known flaw for 10 years.
