Mr Ford. Why is the dash so sticky? Touch it, and your fingers get sticky

It’s hot outside. The dash pictured on my Ford XL is sticky. Sticky to the point if you touch it, your fingers get sticky.

This is not normal. A dash should not get sticky. The lighter blue part of the dash is not sticky. Just the darker blue part.

I had a 2003 Toyota 4Runner that the dash started to get sticky after 15 years. If you touched it with a Kleenex, it would stick, to the dash. I tried several topping to stop the stickiness, but the sticky feeling always came back. In 2021, I received a letter from Toyota, that they would replace the dash Free of charge. They knew there was a problem.

Ford there is a problem with the darker section of the dash. The material for this part need to be changed and replaced at no charge.

I had a 2006 Escape with this issue. Ford said that it was due to the use of environmentally-friendly soy-based plastics, and that the stickiness would diminish over time. I kept that vehicle for 11 years and it didn't change. It had the tackiness of a Post-IT notepad.

This has been reported previously. Get used to "environmentally-friendly" products. Also, this is a low cost vehicle so not highest quality materials.

Being from maine we only get +90 degree temperatures for 3 or 4 days a year. So far no stickiness.

Same thing happened last summer. I sprayed the dash with Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant and hasn't been sticky since. 303 should do the same.

About 20 years ago this was really common on VWs. All the plastic dash and door parts would get sticky. Had it happen on 3 different VWs. I will not own another.

I hit 107 with a heat index of 123 here in Central Texas a couple of weeks ago, and we're just warming up Mine has yet to get "sticky". Seems like most that have this problem are either XL model, Hybrid, or both??? Weird. The McGuires protectant might be worth a shot.
