That is a very fair question and one I've pondered myself.
Truth is, I still get some questions and correspondence (mostly PM) regarding audio upgrades and making some of the amplifier brackets for behind the glovebox.
I am a Ford stockholder and still "vested" even if I moved away from the...
Yeah, that 20 year hiatus was pretty trouble-free. I was hopeful that reliability had improved among all makes and models. At least I gave 'em a chance. Or two..., or three...
That's funny, we were essentially a Ford family in the 90's. I bought a '92 Ranger, a '94 Explorer Sport, and a '97 F-150. My wife drove several 90's Tauruses as a young mother then. There were some issues that didn't go well, and other than an '06 Escape, we "boycotted" Ford too for a couple...
Isn't that the purpose of an open forum - discussion?
Just as you mention nothing but praise and zero issues, it serves the forum's purpose to hear the good and bad. You said, "I for one....", but there are more than one, and some of those experiences are positive, and some are negative.
You didn't comprehend my post correctly. My point was that one shouldn't assume that low price point ALWAYS yields low quality and unreliability. I used the early Japanese autos as an example.
They were cheap, but often more reliable than the much more expensive (think Buick, Cadillac)...
I agree with all of your points. I would trade many of the tech features for reliability.
Some have marginalized some the problems as "just software issues".
I also don't understand the distinction between "real hardware issues and problems fixed with a software patch", either can ruin your...
Believe it or not, some of the early Japanese vehicles that gained a foothold in the states were the "least expensive" of their time. Very spartan, with a lot of painted metal inside, and low-budget. However cheap they looked and felt, they were reliable and dependable. Yet inexpensive.
Price...
That, and they "know" they have an issue with inventory already manufactured but not delivered and know it is cheaper to fix and less damaging to the their stellar reputation that yet more recalls.
I've had a lot of FWD vehicles, a few needed axleshafts over the long haul. Easy to replace.
Rockauto is typically a good source for both OEM and aftermarket parts. They do not have any axleshafts for the Maverick. They do for about everything else I searched for, Escape, RAV4, etc.
Odd...
Only grief I got was from everyone in the parking lot where I work watching me having to "start" my new Maverick with a Noco about once or twice a week.
That, and the fact that I had to opt out of the "clean energy event" car show at a national lab because mine was at the Ford dealership for...
Keypad worked well for kayaking trips until the wire harness left the vehicle dead. A manual key is the only option in that situation. Lost confidence in keypad, apps.
LEDs automobile lighting that is integrated by the OEM works well because the housings and reflectors are designed for them, electrically, thermally, and in the case of headlights, optically.
Aftermarket solutions are often problematic, electrically (CANBUS), thermally (heat dissipation), and...
