Sure. But who got a better value: a Maverick early adopter or someone buying a 2025 for $8-10k more? I don't think I'd replace my Maverick with an identical 2026 for such a price increase
I could say the same thin about my 1992 Ranger. But the simple fact of life is prices go up, period. As the cost to produce goes up the cost to the buyer goes up. No one can buy a brand new 2022 today so the price difference is moot. Personally I waited and bought a 2024 leftover. And I would NEVER order and wait over a year for any vehicle.

Most of us will look and compare.
For me it will be about options available, especially exterior colors and extended mileage battery upgrade. Wish Ford would have a showroom at the Louisville plant where we could see the Fathom and order (if we choose).

Do they even have one to show you, other than a test bed prototype?
They are likely refining some basic features of the vehicle, as well as appearance factors, and powertrain capabilities.

If you were able to order now, what options would you choose that are not defined or priced yet?
At some point they will have a vehicle you can see, but likely not now.

When I lived in South East Florida there were charges about every 15 to 25 miles. Almost every large shopping center, Walmarts, Cracker barrel but in the 4 years except for planned road trips I only charged away from home 4 or 5 times and then it was just for 15 mins. or so and It would add about 50 miles of range. I charged at home while I slept
One factor: temperature..
Here in the Dairy state, we have a 90 - 100° difference over the year. Florida does not. 🤔

I love my Maverick and most likely will not swap it for the Fathom, but I will likely put in an early order for one as long as its not binding, same as I did with my Maverick. My husband is on his 3rd EV (BMW i3, Polestar 2, and now a Mach E). We have been happy with all 3, but the Mach E is the best one. The i3 lasted for over 10 years in our family, with battery degradation minimal, even at the 10 year mark. The only reason we sold it is it was not suitable for my son to take it cross-country to college with him (it had the original 70- mile capacity battery and did not have a range extender).

We have a home charger and chargers at work. The long term cost of ownership is so low with an EV, its hard to grasp at first. In fact, its low enough we could easily pay for a rental car when we decide to go on road trips and still come out ahead in the end. Part of my decision will be the residual value of my 22 Maverick at the point when the Fathoms are delivered. Part will be the looks and stats. I want my little trucks to look like a truck and not a chopped up SUV.

I would want:
- a better interior than the MAV
- 360 camera for parking and close quarter maneuvering
- ventilated seats (Texas summers are brutal)
- at least 250 miles of range, but would prefer over 300

My main concern so far would be the length of the bed. A lot of what we have put in the bed of my Mav just barely fit. A 4' bed instead of 4.5' might just be a dealbreaker....

For me...... it depends where fossil fuels are at that time, Ford continued quality/service/warranty/parts availability, charging station availability, and finally vehicle cost.

Had 2 VW Jetta TDI's that got 50+ mpg when diesel wasnt in the clouds. Then a Hybrid Sonata which even after 12 model yrs when I purchased my '23 still couldnt depend on knowledgeable Hyundia service, warranty reliability, or parts availability. Now with our new '26 Mav the jury is still out....

POV EVs are the way of the future. But like the killing of public transportation, still have some obstacles to overcome (IMO).

One concern I'd have with switching is depreciation. I'm still getting offers from Carvana and Carmax for $22k trade in, so it's barely depreciated 4 years in. I doubt the Fathom could match that given how EVs depreciate.

Early Mavericks were made to barely break even or even loose money to see if the concept had legs. It had 2 things- low cost and it was a pickup. They were made with some cheap parts that have been upgraded- '25 refresh completed what they planned to do in first Gen. Gen 2's will be be more refined and cost more in upper trims. There will still be a bare-bones XL for low MSRP advertising. and I am sure there will be a Maverick van and wagon down the road.

Lately I have tended to keep vehicles for a decade. I just got the Mav last year. A slight "upgrade" in options or comfort is not a good enough excuse for me to trade in a fairly new vehicle on a similar one and lose <---(please notice the correct spelling; I went to skool) some money. However, if it was significantly cheaper to operate and would pay for the loss in less than a year, sure, why not.
The move from my T250 Transit (not Connect) with 16mpg to the 45mpg Mav hybrid has paid for itself, as I currently drive about 20k a year.
I could never understand the people that jump around from car to car every couple years because they like a new feature or color or something. I guess I'm a tightwad, or just not wealthy enough to spend $30-75k on a whim.

I am planning on trading my 2024 hybrid lariat Maverick, to the point where I’m already accumulating the funds. Hope the maverick reasonably holds its value so the gap stays in the 15K $ range.

I’ve done preliminary research on getting a two way charging outlet that pairs with my solar system.

For me just too many +s , better garage fit & by then at 77 I’ll almost be ready to be done with trucks (LOL kidding myself) Oh and a frunk! 😁

Reading here I see ‘mid gate’ comments. Haven’t read that term in any Fathom info I’ve seen yet. What is it?

Oops! Never mind. Google for the mid gate definition.

Knowing that just upped me from about 95% trading to 100%

What I REALLY would want and would get me to trade in, is a plug in hybrid maverick... same exact thing except a 50-80mi ev only range that I can plug into an outlet to charge overnight, but don't need to.
I'd tend to agree about the PHEV: With increasing demand on the power grid from EVs and AI Data Server Farms, I think there's a growing risk of power shortages or major increases in electricity costs. Having an EV that can also run on gas if needed makes sense in that context. The downside of PHEVs is their complexity and current reliability issues.

I got a Bolt EV within the first 3 months they were available.

I lived in an apartment at the time.
Zero charging at home.
I charged off 120 VAC at work.
Employer didn't hav and didn't need to install any equipment. Neither did I.

I took several 450 mile day trips.
Charging during lunch is simple, easy, convenient. With gps and cell phone apps charging barely adds 5 minutes to your day. If that.

You don't know what you don't know until you do it!
