The Lightning is a cool gimmicky truck my friend has one , It’s not made for long trips or towing just small truck stuff like the Maverick just bigger bed , mileage is a joke and Ford even said there done with big truck EV’s. Not trying to be a dick but I’m a technician and we’re just not there yet with EV’s. I’ve worked on all of them and there are to many flaws.

Good luck. Personally I think EV trucks are not practical at all...

I have driven them and they ride great. They still seem pretty gimmicky to me. It's gonna cost a pretty penny for you to put a home charging station in. Even with the extended range battery its not practical for long road trips or towing/hauling. If you just use it for a daily driver and have a charging station at work then it could work for you. I have known a lot of people that have owned them and almost everyone has traded it back in after a few months. Personally I feel full electric vehicles are a ways away from being practical for most people. If I was to get a F-150 I would have gotten the Powerboost. Good luck though. I hope you have a better experience with your Lightning then most people!

That lightening is a sweat truck. You have what like 100 Cubic ft of storage between frunk and bed?
I'd do the same thing in a heart beat about 10 years from now if Electric turns out to be accepted and batteries packs can be easily swapped out when they crap out. Thanks for being an Alpha Consumer and sticking with Ford. Zip on by all those gas guzzlers for me when you're in the left hand lane!

60min of waiting?
Used bathrooms @ Flying J for the family and snacks just like any other roadtrip. At Walmart I bought everything our daughter at UTK needed for supplies, while it charged. At Volkswagen we did a couple of the top word games for the day and ate a packed lunch.

Today took advantage of Ford’s amazing incentives and traded in my much loved Maverick.

Our 22 Hybrid w/ Lux pkg + moonroof and slide rear window was easily one of the most enjoyable vehicles I’ve ever owned.

traded in a minivan too that was a little upside down on loan so my final numbers won’t matter to you. But here’s the incentives I received on a 23 Lariat Lightning Extended Range:

$79,785 MSRP
-5,000 Ford Cash
-2,000 Private Ford Offer
-2,856 Dealer discount
-5,000 Colorado instant EV Tax credit
-500 additional Dlr discount (“I’ll buy if you come down another $500 and throw in a free spray-in bed liner)
-7,500 Federal “ “
(= $22,356 OFF MSRP!)
PLUS 36mo @1.9%!! Promo FoMo Credit!

And since people will be wondering, with my maverick and minivan trade allowance, minus their respective payoffs, $48,740.64 out the door, including my local sales tax, doc fee, reg. fee.

I think I did great. If you’re considering a lightning to replace your Mav- this is a great time for purchasing one. Obviously a much bigger truck but very awesome.

If I did the math right, it looks like after all of your discounts the reduced price before trade in was around $55,500 plus/minus. And out-the-door price was around $48,750., a difference of only around $7k. Is $7k all they gave you for trading in your Maverick plus the minivan? Not sure how upside down you were on the minivan, but $7k trade in for two vehicles doesn't seem like much to me. Even if you were $10k upside down on the minivan, that means they gave you a whopping $17k for the two vehicles, which again, isn't very much considering one of them was a relatively new Maverick.

Enjoy your Lightning. It looks awesome. If I had the cash (I don't take out vehicle loans as a personal principle), I would have purchased a Lightning. I have no regrets with my Maverick purchase however! :)

Will it be paid off before the battery needs replaced?
Be sure and budget for that.

Set aside some money for all the tires you burn through too, EV’s eat rubber because of their massive weight.

Wow, night and day, but I have both a Maverick and a Rivian R1T. Just took a road trip ATL-Knoxville and from an EV standpoint nothing really different than an ICE vehicle, except where you fill up. I hit Flying J's truck stop on the way up, with covered charging, 20 minutes = 150 miles. While I was there hit Walmart with Electrify America, 20 miles 150 miles. And on the way back hit the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga EVGO 20 minutes 150 miles.

I was originally on the lightning reservation list, but that was just another MACH-E, Bronco, Maverick reserve one year, delivery next couple years. I bailed years ago.
Jealous of your R1T. I love those things - we have plenty here in Asheville. I'm hoping for an R2T myself, but I fear they are years away. Rivian is only talking about the R2S right now. Still, I have my fingers crossed they show an R2T 7 March.

There's all the "narrative of the week" BEV stories in the media, which we should all ignore, and then there are facts. One fact that caught my eye this week was a fleet buyer complaining because the 100 Lightnings they'd ordered were on a stop ship order because of a defective headlight cable.

It wasn't the cable defect that caught my eye - it was that a fleet buyer had ordered 100 Lightnings. And there are a lot of unexciting facts like that out there - like the fact that Ford's electric Transit is a super-hot seller in the fleet market. You won't read about those successes because they don't inflame a polarized public and generate clicks.

We are calmly progressing to a BEV future.

Thank you, we did get the ford charger you referenced. We have an existing level 2 (wife has an ID.4) so we’ll see about swapping them out.
Maybe a little off topic but I was wondering how you and your wife like to VW? My wife has a Honda CRV, I have a VW golf and I'm thinking about steering her towards the ID4, thanks
