My "original" plan was to install a Homelink module somewhere in the truck (I've installed them in several of my former vehicles). However, looking at the overhead sunglasses compartment (which I won't use since my regular eye glasses are light sensitive tinted), I decided to try something. The material that lines the compartment is "velcro friendly" so I removed the sunviser clip from my garage door opener, slapped a piece of velcro on the back, and positioned it near the top edge of the door. So far it appears to be a good solution and saves me a lot of wiring and drilling hassles. If I later decide to install a Homelink unit, that compartment door area might also be a good spot to install it, and maybe there is a easily accessible power source up there.

Very nice but that gadget is not in the Lariat model with a Moonroof!

Mabcim,

Exactly, I did a very similar install on my Pontiac Torrent, and put one in the lower dash on my Chevy HHR. Thought about doing similar again (or finding a Homelink rear view mirror...) but I'm going to give this simple solution a try first.

I still recommend this
Smart WiFi Garage Door Opener Remote No Hub Needed https://a.co/d/6lu5KaR

No extra device needed in the truck, just your phone. Pull up to the house and say hey Google activate garage, and it opens your garage door. Same with hey Google close my garage door.

Also gives you alerts when the garage door opens or closes, and you can check the status or operate it remotely from your phone as well.

Maybe it is just me, but I am always concerned that I may be far from home, and I may say something inadvertently and Google will immediately respond. Maybe like singing the old song, 'open the door Richard' and Google will open the door.

Not just you. Technology is great in certain applications, and sometimes it can just plain bite you in the ass when you least expect it, like coming home and finding your garage empty. :ROFLMAO:

I have read of a module that is wired to the vehicle, when you approach your garage you flash the hi beams twice and it'll open the door. It's not sensing the actual high beams, just the fact you flashed twice. It also relies on the usual transmission mode used by garage door openers. So, you won't be opening your door if you flash your high beams twice unless you're in close proximity to your garage.

Only thing that bugs me is the fact it's wired in. I like plug and play. Cutting into a wire harness, not so much. A person might be able to make it plug and play if they found the right connectors and could make their own short harness?

Agree. I had a few instances of the garage door randomly open. Security cameras show no vehicles anywhere near. I put the opener on a wall switch and cut the power when gone. Problem solved.

Thanks! Exactly the type of info I was looking for. My Mav is scheduled for build mid January, and I've been following this forum to learn what I can ahead of delivery.

I have the same deal with my chamberlain door. I finally just went back to the original app for the door opener and it works perfectly. I can set up the geo fence but I chose not to just in case someone got my phone and knew where I live. Not paranoid, I just know the government has some feral cats on the payroll.

Nice workaround with the velcro and the sunglasses compartment! Using velcro to hold the garage door opener there is smart, especially since you won’t use the compartment for glasses.
If you decide to go with the Homelink install later, that spot should work well, and hopefully, there's an easy power source. If you run into any issues or need help with the setup, you might want to check out portlanddoorsandlocksguy.com for garage door repair. They could give you a hand.

From what some members on this forum wrote, if you keep open and closing the sunglass compartment, sooner or later the latch will not work, and the door will drop down with every bump in the road!
