If the car is parked out in your driveway and someone breaks in they can use it to open your garage door. Also if you are parked somewhere else and they break in and steal it and look in your glove box and see your registration or something else with your address on it they can they go to your house and open your garage door.

With the Homelink mirror it is only powered when the ignition is on.
My 3 button Homelink is only powered when in accessory mode. You need a key to power it up.

Why are people so opposed to using the remote that came with their garage opener?
  1. The Maverick's sunshades are too thick for the clip on the remote
  2. The remote is too big. Many garage door opener manufacturers make a single remote capable of controlling 3 doors. I, like most consumers, have one door.
  3. I hate the clutter of additional buttons and screens, especially if I can accomplish the same thing and existing button or screen in the vehicle.

If the truck is on fire I don;t care about the opener. They sell replacement openers but not replacement lives. Was that yours? What caused it?
Nope not mine, just a gentle reminder of what can "TOTAL" a car.

And how does that homelink opener help in either situation? Just think of spending the time and money to install it and the next day a flood! that replaceable remote seems better all the time
They're both replaceable. Some people feel that the price of extra security from Homelink is worth it. Others feel that cheap is always best. Some people use their phone as a remote and never leave a remote in the vehicle or have to replace one. It's great to have options.

I like the sunglass holder so I velcroed mine here.

I did the same but my velcro melted from the "MINNESOTA HEAT" :/

Probably just some bad velcro on my part

I updated my garage door rather than my truck with a $40 Apple Home compatible garage door opener. Takes minutes to install and works with any make or model opener or remote technology including the rolling code ones because it is just closing a circuit just like the wired physical button.

The button shows up on CarPlay when you are within about 1/4 mile of home.

Also added an automation to shut the door when I leave that 1/4 mile radius (and turn off the lights and close the blinds in my home office.)

Requires an iPhone in the truck (of course) and another Apple product like AppleTV or HomePod at home to act as the hub.

(not my image, but this is what the interface looks like)
I bought that unit when i had my 22 but returned it, couldn't figure it out must be my age…

Correction. It was $149.
My home alarm/smart home system is also integrated to Siri. When I'm connected to CarPlay I can simply tell Siri to open or close the garage door. No need to touch any buttons.

Apple TV? HomePod? Does this work with all or most Garage doors?
You can check your specific garage door opener here:

https://www.meross.com/en-gc/compatibility-check/garage-door-opener

I have a Chamberlain/Liftmaster that the manufacturer has tried desperately to lock out anything but their home automation solution (which really pisses me off), but Meross support provided an additional small attachment that connects to their small box, at no additional charge, that is basically the guts of an opener remote that is electronically activated by Apple HomeKit.

They go that far to ensure compatibility.

I clip my remote to the front of the center console. I had to shorten the sheet metal clip just a bit so the lid would close properly, but it's both handy and mostly out of sight to passers-by.

Exactly what I was going to post. Spent my career in the insurance industry and I've seen the claims. I keep my remote in my shirt pocket and my insurance ID and registration in my wallet next to my license.

Just get one of these chamberlain universal gateways. Comes with 1 door sensor, get a second sensor if you have 2 doors as the gateway will do 2 doors. Just plug it in, learns in just like adding a remote. I install several of these on alarm systems as it will sync on alarm.com or use the free my-q app. If you already have a my-q door ,you don’t need the sensors, if your operator say my-q Wi-Fi , your done, don’t need anything but the free app

There are all sorts of place you can hide an opener. Mine is clipped to underneath the dashboard. Just feel around either side of the steering column and you'll find plenty of places to clip to where the dashboard plastic meets the dashboard framing. The only catch is because of the metal, you have to be very close to your home in order for the signal to reach it.
