I have been using the Meross Smart Garage Opener for about 2 weeks now and it works great.

Installing it was fairly easy. I had to connect the two wires to the terminals on the garage door opener. The same terminals used for the open button next to the door to the house. I also had to run a wire to the front of the garage and mount the two magnets next to the garage door so the system knows if the door is open or not. Meross did not include any wire staples to mount the wire so you might want to purchase some before installing. Finally, I plugged it in.

Connecting it to Apple HomeKit was also easy. First, I downloaded the Meross iPhone app. Next, I followed the instructions for linking my system to the app and adding it to HomeKit.

Once the smart opener is linked to the iPhone app, you can open the app and press a button to open/close the garage door. Using CarPlay in my car, the Meross app automatically appears on your screen when you are within a couple of blocks of the Smart Opener. To open/close the garage door, you just tap on the app on the CarPlay screen.

I won't receive my Maverick until the end January so I've been using the CarPlay app in my Subaru. My Subaru also has a HomeLink mirror. I think the mirror is also great but the big advantage of the Smart Opener is it works from farther away than the mirror. As soon as I see my garage door, I can tap the Smart Opener app and the garage door opens in time for me to enter the garage without stopping. The disadvantage of the Smart Opener is I have to put my car in park to close the garage door after I back out of the garage because my backup camera view shows when I'm in reverse. I believe you can press the Siri button in your car and tell Siri to close the garage door but I have not tried this yet.

I think the HomeLink mirror and the Meross Smart Garage Opener are both great options over using a standard garage opener remote. Both improve security if you part your car in the driveway. Both also eliminate an extra item in your car. I think which one you chose depends on where you feel comfortable installing and working with the equipment. For me as a computer geek, I was more comfortable installing the Smart Opener and working with HomeKit and CarPlay.

I hope you find my assessment help.

Thanks for the update, Matt. Did it say on the box or in the instructions if it worked with Android or Android auto?

Interesting how it can tell when you're close to the house. I actually like that.

The app mentions Google Assistant but not Android Auto. I don't have experience with either so I'm not sure if there is any linkage or not.

I believe the Meross app asked for my address but I'm not sure it is necessary. If I figure it out, I'll post again.

I've used one for around 3 years now.

Works great with Android and iphone.
I use voice commands so I don't even have to push a button/icon on the screen or phone.

Even better that you get alerts when the door opens/closes.
