I was under the impression that those with both vents "plugged" had pressure relief valves 1.5-3 PSI to help keep gasses within battery and possibly recombining back into water. The plastic plug would keep the gas from escaping from the regulated hole and forcing it out the side with the vent tube. At least on the battery specs of the two I researched. Some of them have both vent holes plugged and you have to open it on the correct side with something sharp.
Breaking off a plug to push into the correct side is much easier.
None of the battery makers know which side your vent tube is on - you will always have to do something.
Or leave it venting into cabin. I'm sure no issues there.
(then again, the current BMS won't have a chance to overcharge it, so no current issue)
