26.6 is pretty excellent gas mileage for a vehicle of this size, weight, power and aero profile. Add in the AWD and special tires from the FX4 package and it's even more impressive.
I unfortunately had an accident with my 2013 Focus and had to make a spur-of-the-moment car buy (a 2018 Sonata SEL, which I'm still quite happy with) so unforunately my aspirations of a Maverick have to be pushed back a bit. Some day I'll join the rest of you!

I would be surprise if the 2 litre got that milage. Maybe if it did a steady state drive at 45 mph on flat ground

Also a new engine will loosen up and start getting better mileage after the firslt 1500 or so miles.

I would suspect the 312 mile trip on the display could possibly have been from Michigan to the Chicago show distance?

Also, on the highway I can pretty easily get 25-26 in my Ranger at 70-75.

I recently did 25 mpg on a long trip in my modified Evo X. This is a car that did 6 mpg on the track. It's all about how you drive.

I have 1.5" lift, 2 inch taller tires and a roof rack (in town average was 22 mpg/open road 26mpg before mods). The trip was also mainly from ~1k elevation to 8k elevation which is murder on fuel economy anyways.
Honestly, it's about average for this level of modification from about 10 other owners I've talked to with similar modifications. I go above and beyond in my vehicle maintenance, there are no check engine lights, no signs of unusual wear, doesn't burn oil, etc. Either way, if I purchase a Maverick I'll be selling or trading my Outback.

I average 27 mpg in my 17 Focus ST with the same engine although it is FWD with 6spd manual.

That's shitty mileage for a microtruck like this Maverick. I know it is not the hybrid, however, but for a vehicle this small this mileage 26 is a real disappointment. I've got a 2018 F150 2.7 that get's 17-18 and that's a full sized truck with all of the functionality. Further, I hear guys claim all the time that they get 21-22 in their F150 2.7s. My F350 6.7 diesel (not chipped) get's 18-19 in the city and 20+ on the highway (been as high as 22 on road trips). So, considering the tiny size of the Maverick, 26-27 is pretty disappointing. Not worth the functionality tradeoff you get with a bed the size of a big wheelbarrow and a little bitty cab.

8 additional MPG is pretty good, not sure what your expecting. My tiny 2018 elantra barley gets over 30 and has like 130 HP? 26 mpg @ 250 HP on an AWD truck is pretty damn good imo

I disagree. This tuck on built on a SUV compact frame. Most compact SUVS with a gasoline engine get 27-30 mpg on the the highway and low 20's mpg in town. I get 29 mpg on my Mazda CX-5 and 22 mpg in town.

I think its safe to assume the maverick will get in between the BS Badlands and the Escape (both use 2.0). So around 25 is a pretty good guess, anything more/less than that is splitting hairs/speculation

Also have to remember that most SUVs are lucky to break 180hp - and they still barely manage 30mpg. My wife's Rogue was maybe 160-170hp, the number didn't really matter it was garbage to drive - more than once if it was in eco mode I ended up scared for my life in the wrong situation where some power was needed.

The maverick at 250hp will be a rocket by comparison, and still manage to get 90% of any anemic SUV out there.
