I might have to buy a filing cabinet for all my recall notices. They're taking up space on my bulletin board.

They must have caught it for the 24's...GOOD
I hope so too...but it seems like, as in software bugs, catch one and the two hiding behind it will appear!

I'm curious to know just how many Mavs, if any, have blown up. Seems like we'd have heard about it on the forums.

I haven't heard of any yet. Just in the other models.

I believe this is only for 2022's, and EARLY 2023's. By April the belly pans have more vents in them to address this.

So, is this just telling us that parts will be available 2nd quarter of 24.... Is that the only new thing?
Yes, that is the only new part. On the dealer's side, we only see that as an advanced notice still. We got an update @ the end of Jan w/ an update on part and software update availability. Sometime Q2 of 2024. This letter just updates customers about the same thing. My letter also came in the mail today!

This second recall was because there was recorded instances of vehicles that had the under shield modification in place still experiencing the failure/fire.

By September 2022 the engine machining/cleaning processes had been improved such that it shouldn't occur, but there were still some 2023's (which started production in November 2022) that may have been assembled with engines from the July-August period while the "robustness actions" were being implemented.

This is one reason why I don’t want a HYBRID!
You won't pry mine away from me. Glad I waited a year to order, then another year for a build. No early build blues.

I find it interesting that the nature of the fix hasn't been fully disclosed after all this time. They know what it is. My journalist gut suspects they must be withholding it for a reason, perhaps PR narrative control if it's something that seems ridiculous which would inflame consumers or if it's a large expense replacing engines which would affect news on the profitability side with investors.
To be fair, if they can isolate which engines are impacted, and just replace those 300-500 motors, then I don't really see it impacting Ford's bottom line. The issue it seems to me, is they seem to know roughly how many engines are effected, but don't know which ones those are.

The challenge will be able to determine that somehow. I think that's the main reason Ford has held off on this, to try and brainstorm how to identify those defective engines. Replacing a few hundred engines wouldn't be a big deal, but replacing a few hundred thousand would be quite the endeavor, and a massive waste considering most engines are fine. At this point in time, I'd be perfectly content with a examination of our trucks to determine if they had these defects, and an extended warranty as a bit of a "Sorry for the inconvenience" that's what Kia/Hyundai did and it seemed to work out quite well for them.

I wonder what the fix is going to be?

They have known this for years and decided to ignore it. Telling us it is not a problem and drilling a few holes in the bottom plastic cover as a "fix".

Because there isn't really a specific "300-500 motors"; after all it encompasses some 3 years of production. The chronology documentation notes that the manufacturing corrective action was "improving crankshaft machining/finishing operations and reducing contamination introduced during engine assembly." So there aren't specific engines to replace but rather it's just generally the machining and cleaning in some cases may result in an engine that prematurely fails (at a statistically significant rate).
