You won't pry mine away from me. Glad I waited a year to order, then another year for a build. No early build blues.
4WD is a must for me. Fuel economy is not the reason I purchased.

I drove over 40 years in the snow belt, and never needed 4WD/AWD, but some do. My last 10 winters were just RWD, so FWD is a nice upgrade.

These days we don’t get much Snow In PA. PLus they throw out 2 inches of salt to one inch of snow. I need 4WD for hunting and fishing. To go off-road.
just jabbing 😉

According to the Post Offices Informed Delivery, mine is due in my mailbox today. Jacksonville NC post office is slow. I have a friend who mailed a Christmas card postmarked 30 November and it arrived on 05 January.
I'm pretty sure it's all routed through the Hermosillo substation.

To be fair, if they can isolate which engines are impacted,......... The issue it seems to me, is they seem to know roughly how many engines are effected, but don't know which ones those are.

The challenge will be able to determine that somehow. I think that's the main reason Ford has held off on this, to try and brainstorm how to identify those defective engines.
How do they identify which ones are problem engines is indeed the rub. In the absence of a scientific method to propose while sitting across the table from the NHTSA lawyers, the government is most likely to say, "You just need to replace all of them them to satisfy this issue for us." We will see.

But to my point, if they have to replace a couple hundred thousand engines that will indeed be a PR issue.

Yeah, this will be a tricky issue to solve for sure. To make matters more complex, while some people may find the idea of getting their powertrains replaced with new ones for no additional cost appealing, I to put it bluntly, don't want technicians removing my engine and pulling a new one in unless they know it's defective. I'm concerned that such an extension operation would cause more issues than it solved.

Even worse, we're looking at moving to Phoenix in the coming months, and I don't know what dealership chains out there are reputable, and which ones should be avoided. So I'm having to take a chance on getting our engine replaced through a dealership I have no prior experiences with.

Letter just came in the mail today.
I wonder what the fix is going to be?

Yeahhh...suuuuurrre. I'll believe it when they actually come up with a solution. They had said a solution was expected last October, then November.... Still waiting. Why should we believe this message?

The "solution", I imagine, will be a software change to detect a failing rod (likely using the original knock sensor or an updated one) to warn the driver, and shut off the engine before causing a fire hazard. No one catches fire=problem contained. Since related changes would have to be tested to prove functionality before being rolled out, perhaps this is causing the delay. Or procuring sensors?

Owners hoping for more intrusive a resolution will likely be disappointed. Might be better, though, as the huge majority of the vehicles that are fine would be better off not taken apart. After seeing the quality of work performed having the relatively simple battery cable overlay done on mine, I don't want to take it back to the dealer for any physical work if possible, only software.

Cheers.

It's exactly what they have tested. From the sounds of the report it's passed lab testing, now it needs field testing.

"May – November 2023: Ford’s Internal Combustion Powertrain and Powertrain Controls Engineering

teams tested several engines and analyzed historical calibration data to characterize connecting rod

bearing failures for all cylinders. The team used these findings to develop a connecting rod bearing

failure detection algorithm which will limit engine speed/load after detecting a bearing that is in the

process of failing, and provide notification to the driver. Once the software was developed, the

engineering teams tested its effectiveness through dynamometer and vehicle testing. The results of the

testing indicate that this algorithm will detect a connecting rod bearing failure and protect the engine

from a block breach.

On December 15, 2023, Ford’s Field Review Committee approved the remedy for the 23S27 field action."

You too? Here in Houston, Tx area, two big distribution or sorting centers are having big delays. Big time news, with go t officials involved. Guess still hiring some who can’t read??
