2024 Lariat with 2k miles. My minimum trip duration is probably 20 minutes. But I have received probably 3 or 4 sleep messages. I charged the 12v once overnight on 2amps a couple weeks ago to top it off but today the truck was dead after work. I tried a jump pack on it but couldnt get it to start. Jumper cables and a coworker got me going but its worrysome for sure on a new truck. What should I expect the dealer to do when I relate this issue? A new batt - if its charging this poorly consistently I'm doubtful that will solve things.

Short Answer: Very Little!!! Sorry, hope I am wrong!!!! They will blame it on "short trips"..... Hopefully, they will quickly replace the battery!:)

20mins are my shortest trips. I have several 35 min trips per day and a couple 1hr+ trips per week. There is no excuse for a poorly charged battery with my driving habits.

Since it's still under warranty; if convenient, the next time It fails to start, call your dealership and have roadside assistance come get it and take it and. If the battery is too dead to start it, they will replace it.

Are you sure your jump box was charged up? The 12V battery doesn't need much amperage because it doesn't actually start the truck. It only operates a relay that allows the high voltage battery to start the vehicle.

A lot of truth here folks. At some point replacing the battery is going to be cheaper than paying roadside assistance. Every time you deliver your problem child to the dealer for a diagnosis they get paid regardless the outcome. When Ford starts paying for towing things get real and they will expect answers from the dealer.
Went through this with a new 2000 Ranger and the first time I forced them to tow it I got a new battery in about one hour.

I only have 3,200 miles after a year and a half having my hybrid. That tells you how little I drive it and knock on wood so far it starts every time. Yes it's in deep sleep 90% of the time but still starts and in the winter I turn all remote features off.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Short trip is B.S. I've driven hybrids for 10 years both straight and plug-in, There is an issue beyond 'short trips', which have never been an issue with any of my vehicles.

Does putting a new battery in solve the problem?

How do you turn off all remote features?

Ford dropped the ball here,I think my 52 year old carbureted muscle car would start more easily than these brand new hybrids! Common Ford, you can do better. Especially when my ecoboost starts fine in our cold Michigan weather. 1 below this am,no problem.

Some years back, I was taking a road trip from Detroit to Milwaukee area in my Ford Explorer. While driving in the Milwaukee area, my screen turned black just as I was back at the hotel. Next morning, the car wouldn't start. Had it towed to the local Ford dealer, and what they discovered was loose battery terminals, specifically the + terminal. When you have a loose terminal the voltage goes down and the current goes up, and the tips of the terminals got hot, melted the red plastic flexible terminal cover and of course the battery didn't charge. The dealer discovered this in a heartbeat and the car was in and out within an hour. They put the battery on a fast charger. This was a new Explorer at the time. No charge for the service.

More recently my neighbor's new Volvo XC90 wouldn't start. I tried one of those battery packs and it was barely enough to get the car to turn over, but not start. Then I connected his other car to the Volvo with jumper cables, and same thing--barely enough juice to get it to turn over. Finally I told him to get in his other car, press the accelerator so we were at 3000 RPM+ instead of idle, and voila, enough juice to turn over and start the Volvo.

Your problem could be something as simple as battery connections. If not it's very easy diagnosis to determine if the battery is no good, and of course, an easy fix that the dealer should pay for.
