Replying to myself to give an update -XLT FX4, probably 70%+ highway (45 mph+ state or interstates), usually in Eco mode. Usually running 93 octane, but went down to 89 a few tanks ago with no negative results. Haven't towed yet, occasionally have a few hundred pounds in the bed (lawn equipment, generator, junk) or kayaks/canoe on a bed rack, but most of the time just running empty with a tonneau cover on a daily commute.
Overall average for the first 9000 miles has been 28.8 mpg
Best single tank was 33 mpg (road trip in warm weather and flat terrain, almost all highway), Worst was 23 (first tank, winter weather).
I've got a pretty light foot most of the time, so I'm sure that helps.
I'm now over a year and just barely shy of 20,000 miles, still primarily running 89 octane (for either price or availability reasons, I've had a couple tanks of 87, 90, and 91 mixed in there). Same driving conditions as before.
Overall average is now sitting at 29.4 mpg, worst tank overall remains the first one (23.3). The worst in the past 6 months was 26.4 (cool temps, some snow/ice driving conditions). The best single tank was an impressive 36.5 mpg over 519 miles, but that remains the only tank over my previous best of 33.0.
