My first 30 mpg tank came when I passed 3k miles/3 months, there's definitely a break-in period (if not for the truck, then for the driver, but probably both). I also added and started using eco mode at about that time, which definitely helps for my driving style and conditions.
New update now that I've passed 2 years and 37,000 miles:
Overall average is up to 29.8 mpg. No new records (good or bad), same driving style, but I've also dropped down to 87 Octane, which hasn't seemed to hurt performance or mpg at all.
Oh, I definitely agree - when I got my PHEV it was the only vehicle in my house, it made a lot of sense (and again, I was buying used at a time when gas prices were low - there was no demand for my PHEV and the price reflected that). I really think it was the best choice for me in my specific...
My old car is a PHEV, and my situation fit Eagle11's conditions pretty much perfectly - I could do a normal round trip to work (throw in hitting a grocery store or whatever on the way home) and not need a drop of gasoline on a typical day.
So why not full EV? A few reasons. First, purchase...
I mostly run 89, and everything has been good enough for me over the first 30k miles. My overall mpg is 29.7.
I'll be honest, I think that I'm wasting money on it - unless you're really stressing the engine (a lot of full throttle, towing, high-temperature operation, etc.), the difference in...
That's not necessarily someone beating on it, it might have just been a lot of idling (running the engine at 0 mph gives you 0 mpg, after all). I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
I use the Ryobit ONE+ battery-powered compressor -
It's actually really good for topping off tire pressure, or for low pressure applications (air mattresses, inflatable rafts, etc). Pretty slow for fully inflating a tire if you really have to air down, but if you're patient it does the job.
...and another reply to myself to update/track this as time goes on and the miles add up.
I'm just over 28,000 miles overall with a calculated overall average of 29.5 mpg, so holding steady there. Recently had my best single tank - 538.8 miles using 14.145 gallons of 89 octane, which...
Dang, already have two of those (cargo net and dash tray), I guess I could have saved a couple bucks. But then, I'd have done without for a while.
Both highly recommended, by the way, good choices!
I average about 400 miles per tank (just over 13 gallons per fill up).
I could stretch it a bit further, the tank is something like 16.5 gallons, but I would maybe skip one trip to the gas station every two or three months, not worth running that low.
The big advantage I see in Eco mode vs. Normal is in transmission behavior going down hills -
Normal likes to downshift when the truck is speeding up down the hill when I'm off the throttle. There's logic to that, but I really hate it - I have a lot of small ups and downs around me, so losing...
Also not a lawyer, but I'll throw in an additional opinion...
So first, a dealer can place an order for dealer stock (unless Ford decides they cannot). That's actually how I got my truck - it was a dealer order that I got lucky on.
Next, Identity Theft is a specific type of action - if you are...
I do 5,000 mile intervals. If I went by the oil life monitor I think I would be at about 10,000 (or close to it).
Is it overkill? Yeah, probably. Ford cannot deny a warranty claim if you go by their recommended intervals. But realistically, the cost of an oil change is on par with the cost of...
I haven't really compared directly, so I don't know how big a difference it makes, but I think I see some benefit from Eco mode. It will really depend on how you drive and what the local conditions are like.
The biggest difference (and the reason I prefer Eco mode) is on lower speed roads with...
Replying to myself to give an update -
I'm now over a year and just barely shy of 20,000 miles, still primarily running 89 octane (for either price or availability reasons, I've had a couple tanks of 87, 90, and 91 mixed in there). Same driving conditions as before.
Overall average is now...
Team Lo-Pro! I've been pretty happy with mine, it stays on nice and tight and is easy to roll up or take off when needed.
I do have a little bit of ProX15 envy (seems very similar overall, but a nicer material and I prefer the matte look). If I had it to do over again I'd probably cough up the...
There's an "Engineering Test Mode" function - hold down the ok button on the steering wheel when you turn the key to the "on" position and it will show in the display. Scroll up and down to find different options (I have no clue what most of them do). One is called "AFE Bias" and you can enter...
I've got the same tires and the FX4 package, but no 4k package. I would think the shorter gearing you have would hurt a little, but not a huge amount.
Now to be fair, I drive with efficiency in mind (relatively slow acceleration, no AC unless I really need it, try to stick to the speed limit...
I'm getting more and more impressed with the fuel economy these are capable of getting - I just set a new personal record for a tank - 519.2 miles, calculated 36.5 mpg! (I dialed back the display fuel economy estimate to .980, which usually keeps it pretty close to reality but this time was way...
I checked out the SC before I got my Maverick and thought the same. The turbo SC's fuel economy is really not bad compared to the EB Maverick (the little bit of extra power isn't a bad tradeoff for the little bit more gas burned), but the base model got roughly the same mpg for Maverick Hybrid...
