Sorry if this is a stupid question, but are both the codes for method 2 in the ABS as built?

It is supposed to disable traction control in both those modes. That green truck icon I think has to do with hybrids charging system. Another test is to use the FX4 modes on a regular road. It should cause some vibration in the wheels.

If you have the equivalent of the intelligent AWD menu in the cluster. You should be able to monitor the power to the wheels that way in the cluster. It should be under the display option.

Did you check to see if the system is throwing any DTC codes afterwards. Sometimes when you change these settings it will throw at 1 time code in the PSCM module that needs to be cleared afterwards.

No codes being set. All 6 modes are selectable and functional. I actually used the deep snow for drifts and it works pretty well. Turned on the lane keeping assist yesterday for the first time (alert + assist) as long as the stripes aren't covered in snow, the truck almost drives itself now with one hand on the wheel and the cruise set. There is no equivalent display for intelligent AWD in the hybrid. Yes, the icon for hybrid downhill regeneration looks the same as the hill descent control button. Did you get those buttons to work on your XL?

I did the Forscan adjustment to allow all 7 shift modes in my FX4 the other day. I am running ECO mode for a few days to see if I observe an MPG improvement for the FX4 EcoBoost AWD. There is a little adjustment in shifting, doing so a little sooner than NORMAL mode. But that's hardly discernable.

The biggest difference I notice is on the highway. On grades where it would normally down shift a few gears and I would watch my Live Fuel Economy screen normally drop to single digits for a few moments, Eco mode doesn't shift as deeply and will drop to 12-13 MPG instead of 8-9 MPG. And it might drop a few miles per hour and more slowly get back up to set speed. Whereas on Normal mode, it will down shift and throttle as much as necessary to maintain or recover speed. The duration is really short though, so overall fuel economy may not be much improved. Monitoring.

But I can tell, I really notice the SPORT mode. Whoa! I have had sport modes before, so I thought I knew what to expect. But the difference is VERY noticeable. It feels like I have 30 more HP, which I know is not true, but it feels it. Not only is the shifting way more delayed for more power in the band, but it actually feels stronger from the line. I don't know how that is possible. Is it actually doing something to the turbo system? More fuel? Something else is going on other than just shift points.

At highway speed, the difference of Sport mode from Normal mode is not as perceptible. But at low and mid RPM's and from a start, it is. It's like it's on some illicit narcotic. Again, never felt a Sport mode aggressively change vehicle performance so noticeably. Anyone care to opine about why that is?

Not yet. The issue is the wire harnesses don't have the wire needed to hook up HDC on non FX4 packages. It is an easy wire job though and even easier to wire in a seperate button or toggle switch.

Is there any way to have ECO as the default drive mode for the hybrid?

Can the order of the drive modes be changed so that on a hybrid ECO is the first one as maybe that position is what the default drive mode is?

I really dislike that I have to fumble and take my eyes off the road because I forgot to put it in ECO mode first before starting the drive.

Same problem. I now know to press button 4 times and it is in Eco mode

Applies to all trims w/AWD with or without an FX4 package.

This so far has been tested on an XL trim with a 2.0L gas engine, AWD w/o the FX4 package and has since been confirmed to work with the FX4 package option.

It has also been confirmed that it can be used on FWD vehicles. Performance testing still to be determined for FWD.


This assumes you know how to use Forscan. Also make sure you back up your ABS settings before doing this. If you screw it up badly a simple restore of your back up settings may not be enough. You might also have to do an ABS module reset afterwards.

There are 2 ways to go about this.

Method 1 - enable either the FX4 package or non FX4 package.

To switch between both

For FX4 package and mud / snow drive modes change to xxxx-xxxx-x8xx

Next you need to enable the selectable drive modes for the package you want active. See SDM section for drive mode selection.

Method 2 - This allows for all 4 modes to be usable at the same time

First you need to disable ABS as a selectable drive mode. This will bypass register 760-02-01. You can leave that setting to your vehicle's default setting.

This now allows you to use all 4 modes.

Next you need to enable the drive modes. See SDM section.

Like we saw with the cruise control mod, people might want to be careful using settings collected from ecoboost builds when tweaking their hybrids. We do know that there are differences--although we don't always understand the significance of those differences.

Wish I was comfortable using forscan. Sounds like a no brainer to have these modes available with no downside, other than how skilled you are using Forescan. One reason I did not order a Fx4 for me was losing the eco and sport mode.

If it helps ease your mind I watched some videos and read all these threads on it, ordered the cable and downloaded the software with a 3 year license and just enabled Bambi mode on my 2012 F150. It was fairly easy to do.

My MPGs have gone down...a bit...since I enabled Sport and Eco on mine.

That may be due to temperature, or the twitch in your ankle in Sport mode…

I got a 2011 f150. At least until my Maverick comes in. Ordered the cable. Originally I thought Bambi mode was a light version of forescan. Now I think it is when you turn your highbeams on, the foglights come on too. I will play around and research this more.
