I just changed oil for the second time, very easy to do except for adding that additional tenth of a quart of oil. I tried to measure and mark on the bottle how much to add, but the bottle slipped and I added way too much. Pulled off the splash shield and went to drain a little off, bolt slipped and I drained too much. Put it back together, got it off the ramps and gave it 15 minutes, then checked the oil and was about 1/3 of a quart low. Went to add and was too lazy to grab the funnel and missed the hole. Cleaned up the mess and finally got the oil level right.
In the manual it states "If the oil level is between the maximum and minimum marks, the oil level is acceptable. Do not add oil. " and 6 quarts would certainly get it there. So I am thinking next time just throw in 6 quarts and call it good. Thoughts, or does someone have a good way to measure the additional amount to add?

Lol! I actually still have a free oil change certificate from the dealer, but they wanted to charge me a $65 fee to upgrade to full synthetic.

Damn, they got gold specs in there or something? 5 quarts of full synthetic from Walmart is $18.

I put in the 6 quarts and then used a measuring cup to measure out another 2-3 ounces.

No offense, but I’m amazed some still not use a funnel. Just make sure it’s cleaned well.

AFAIK, the ecoboost does not require full synthetic. Pretty sure Motorcraft Syn Blend is adequate. If you are not heavy footed on the gas pedal, and don't drive in city traffic, you likely will have no problems with a blend. My opinion is that full synthetic is not necessary if you do not have the mentioned conditions, and especially so if you change oil at the 5,000 mile range.
Look on the containers for compliance with the Ford spec for the oil you want to use.
The dealer likely wants to upsell to synthetic as there's a higher profit margin.
If I was towing regularly, driving in mountainous terrain, or city stop and go traffic regularly, synthetic would provide a wider margin of performance, but I am not in those driving conditions.
The synthetic sold under the SuperTech brand meets or exceeds the Ford spec. Given I change at shorter intervals and don't work the oil hard, I have no problem using the approved SuperTech oil.

ADDED: I expect that a tenth of a quart, 3.2oz, will not have significant effect on the lubrication of an ecoboost engine. That is less than 1/2 cup of oil. The level of oil in the pan likely would be 1/8" lower and perhaps less.
If you poured one half cup of oil on a flat surface, it would spread out to less if limited to a square foot of surface area.

I used Motorcraft blend and full syn. I would use blend oil, but oil sample analysis reveals low viscosity. Does not meet the oils viscosity ranges, specifications . After some reviews, decided to try Quaker State brand. Its full syn viscosity range slightly higher than the MC variety’s. But after putting some mileage on QS, pulling a first sample, viscosity is low too, but better than MC. MC is a Conoco Phillips product.

Either Project Farm or The Motor Oil Geek seemed to think that Motorcraft Syn Blend was OK oil. From memory it tested OK. If your viscosity is lower than normal/expected, was there any indication of fuel diluting the oil in the analysis? I used QS on one change, but it had a definite smell when I drained the pan. I did not like the smell, so changed to another brand, FWIW. It was stinky, and the other lubes I had used to date were not smelly in the least. Got no idea what it was.

I loved your post. I've been there and done that. I did exactly what you did w1th the exception of vehemently cussing myself out because I know better and I am a perfectionist. Fortunately my incidents are rare. And, hey, crap happens.

Sample analysis reveals no fuel dilution evidence. In all cases of multiple samples.
