Believe it or not I was shopping for a new Maverick with a new Civic hatch back hybrid, and a Model 3. This is strange but here we are. How about you all?

Coming from a diehard Honda use for the last 30 and more if you count family vehicles growing up. This is my first Ford. Any long term ford drivers here? Comments on longevity? Honda did me good.

Nothing.

I have only owned Fords.
Bought 1 used, the rest new. All but 1 has been ordered.

My father worked for Ford for 31 years before retiring.

Test drove the Corolla Cross Hybrid and Rav 4 before purchasing the Maverick. They were fine enough, sound system was very solid in them (a big consideration for me), but ultimately I wanted the pickup bed and more upright seating posture of the Maverick. The Toyata's felt more cramped inside as well, but the fit and finish was quite nice.

For 'small, quick, fun' unibody pickups:
Hyundai Santa Cruz
And have been waiting/wishing for Toyota's model.. I still am hoping that Toyota will bring a 6 speed manual..I'd probably trade if they make it happen.

Other, non pickups:
Toyota Corolla GR, manual (yah, the hot hatch)
Hyundai i30N, manual (yep, hot hatch)
Model Y (an e-hot hatch; it just a tad too large for my pref.)
Hyundai Ioniq 5 (more hot, more hatch, more furious?)

In hind site, a used Hybrid Maverick with all the recalls done would have been the better option. And then an e-hot hatch for a play thing when I don't need the pickup bed. But don't have the space/$$$ for that combo..
So here I am, in the Lobo for the closest 'hot-hatch' with a pickup bed available, for now...

A 6MT in the Lobo/Mav would have won me over completely..but the Auto is just another auto, with some tricks and comforts that integrate well with the rest of their 'driver assist' features that they up-sell.

I'll keep dreaming about a Toyota unibody compact pickup, in a Gazoo Racing edition and manual trans though..

Just a Rav4 hybrid. But cablegate completely turned me off since their "fix" was just a bandaid. I decided to turn in my 10 year old Prius v due to mounting maintenance (cleaning full egr system due to design flaw) and other issues due to rust (e.g., passenger side parking brake frozen), and didn't want to deal with cable gate.

Only other option was Maverick hybrid. Decided to take my chances on my first Ford, though I did get an extended warranty. I love it so far and really hope it lasts.

I was looking for an old Ranger back in 2020/2021 to replace my wife's reliable but aging 1999 Ford Windstar. I was tired of taking out the heavy middle and rear bench seats. I didn't have a handy place to store them. Those seats are heavy to move around.
Once covid hit the prices on decent used Rangers went crazy. Mid teens for the most part. When I heard about the hybrid Mav I ordered one in October 2021. 15 months later Ford was able to build my order! Love my Mav, perfect for my needs.

Took a Mazda CX-50 out for a test drive - then almost bought a Bronco Sport (almost being that I signed paperwork and was going to finish purchase the next day when I called them in the AM and told them to cancel and I will stop down after work) the Maverick I bought is the same as the one I was going to buy off the lot but they dealer traded it the day I looked at it and the BS....ordered it instead, got it 8 weeks later.

I was unsure whether I wanted to buy new, used or what, and I was all over the place.

My requirements were loosely "mileage like an econobox", "roomy like a wagon while not being a huge tank.", "Has some towing capability"

So I was drawn to what caught my eye as good a decade back, C-Max, Prius V, 2nd Gen Escape HEV.... as "cheap" options. But then I went on a "mid teens German diesel" kick and was considering Q5s, MLs, SLs, X3 and X5... but came to the realisation that the BlueTec kerfuffle was gonna bite me in the ass with my anticipated use pattern (Not enough long highway burns to regen the cat)

Still in used, I was thinking maybe Highlander hybrids for a little while, or Rav4s, didn't appreciate the "Toyota Tax" pricing, yeah it might be gold, but you're pricing it like palladium.

For new, Toyotas didn't get much of a look in really, no you can't test drive, but you can order one, and it will probably be here definitely within the decade for sure.

Then the Hyunda Santa Fe hybrid caught my eye, and though well equipped at good prices, it's really a trade in 3 years car than something you want to get used to. .

Anyways.... long and winding road, but here I am buying a Maverick, though they had been on my radar since announcement.

tbh, a used lariat lightning.

Before trump, you could find ones around 20-40k miles for around 40-45k (if you were willing to travel to the state that had it).

now those jumped past 55k.

not paying extra while my wages aren’t keeping up with inflation.
Maverick 2025 xlt lux package I got for 32k before ttt

Looked at the Santa Cruz, but liked the Hybrid choice. My last Ford , a 2004 Focus lasted 200K+ miles and only replaced an alternator. Great car

I began my search test driving a Honda Ridgeline. No front camera and iffy engine power plus questionable shifts.

Next was the GMC Canyon. The interior was nice, but it was too tall to get into easily. Plus the 4 cylinder engine was too rattlely.

Next was the Toyota Tacoma. It was too tall for ease of entry and the infotainment tech seemed aged. And the price was too high.

Next up was the Ford Ranger. The interior was nice and I test drove both the 2.3L & a 2.7L Ecoboost and the 2.7L was very powerful & impressive. But again the Ranger has grown too big & too tall for ease of entry.

Then it was the Maverick's turn. The overall size and easy of entry was just right. The Sync 4 tech was good. The interior design is good but the material quality is sub par, but for the price point you have to compromise on some things. Like Goldielock & The Three Bears, the Maverick fits just right for my wants & needs, and money I wanted to spend!

I used to like Chevys, but had 3 Mustangs, then an old Ford Ranger. I was looking at mid-sized trucks like Ranger or Colorado, then Maverick came along.

Silverado. (Always been a Chevy guy (except for the 3 Dodge trucks)

Ridgeline — too expensive and fuel economy.
