Just wondering how much oil you Eco Boost consumes... I had to add a qt after 2000 miles at roughly 9500 miles total .

Not worried just wondering.

I may try 10W30 oil on the next change to see if it changes.

Somethings wrong. I don’t log a lot of mileage on my Maverick so I change oil based on season rather then mileage. Two oil changes a year with roughly 3k miles per change. I have never noted any oil consumption. In fact, during winter my oil level actually rises. Most likely due to fuel saturation from short trips and pre-starts.

I have never seen the dipstick reading stray below full.

Most mfgs. will tell you one qt. per thousand miles is " normal". I dont necessesarily agree with that but some engines just consume more than others.

I had a loose oil filter on the Maverick after the first oil change... it sucked down three qts. in around 6k after I did the intiial service at 1200 miles. Somehow I failed to tighten the filter! I think the only time it lost oil was when the oil pressure was above normal pressure like when you would accelerate to freeway speeds. I changed the oil just prior to our yearly blast down to Florida in February.

I don't see any evidence of an oil leak right now but I haven't taken down that steel skid plate to get a closer look.

The next change is due in about a thousand miles. I may switch to a heavier grade oil ( maybe straight 50wt. like they use in nitro fueled dragsters!) and see how things go.

I'm supposed to get that dumb backup camera software redone so maybe I will have a talk with the dealer about it.

I spent several years at the local Ford store in sales but got my ASE certification on a bet with the service mangler after he pretty much told me I wasn't smart enough to pass the tests.

I was certified in five areas of repair including engine and transmission work. I have been doing engine work since I was ten years old as I had to pull the head off of my brothers '52 Buick and carry it to the local machine shop in my little red wagon!

I have had an engine assembly area in my shop for the last 30 years having done quite a bit of engine work out there.

Today few OEM dealers do any real engine work as most favor a total engine replacement rathar than fixing whats broke but much of that is due to not having HD mechanics working under their roof.

A little oil consumption doesn't bother me much but the thought of some of these doofus techs working on the innards of a pretty new car kinda does!

The truck is still under warranty and I do have an extended warranty until 150k plus Pennzoil has been touting that if you use their Ultra Platimun oil they will cover repairs up to 750,000 miles.

I won' live long enough to see 100k so I should be ok.

Film at 11.

Mine has had no noticeable change in sump level in the two 4,000 mile oil change intervals I've run so far. You're right though, Ford would consider your level of consumption normal.

If we’re talking about the 2025 Maverick EcoBoost — mine was built in December 2024. I check oil every 1,500 miles and so far, results are solid:

• 1st oil change after 485 miles driven — 0 consumption (break-in flush)
• 2nd change after 4,005 miles driven — ~400cc used
• Recent, 3rd oil change after 8,012 miles driven, 700cc added during the interval

I swapped the factory fill (Motorcraft) for a Group IV 100% synthetic after the first change.
Driving habits: 60% highway, 40% light city — mostly in Sport mode.

Oil level stays close to the max mark every time. So far, I’d say the new EcoBoost is very well-balanced. Love it.

Dealers will tell you if you use a QT of oil in 1000 miles is normal BUT thinking to them self this is going to be a problem, I know been on that side, theres nothing they can do until they could document loss of oil, keep checking your oil and when needed go back to dealer and have them make a repair order every time oil is needed it's not normal. I drove a 22 FX4 eco for 3 years before buying my 25 Lariat Hybrid I had 15,000 miles on my FX4 not a drop of oil lost changing the oil every 5000 miles. Either the oil was not toped off or its leaking or burning. I hope you're not waiting for 10k to change your oil that's BS, don't do it if you intend on keeping the vehicle long term..

Good day

Funny for me, you posted this query, so here is what I just read this am!

Please keep in mind this from my Hybrid Mav manual...probably in your ecoboost manual as well?

Depending on your towing, maybe speed...it does give higher consumption rates. This may not be your use case, of course.

As for not using the recommended oil, lots of heated discussions on that. Check out some of the threads and videos from professionals like the oil guy about that thought (edit-Motor Oil Geek).

You sound like you have plenty of engine experience but I always feel more good info can help make the right decision for YOU.

FWIW, I follow the manufacturers guidance. (Edit...I do my regular oil changes full synthetic, at no more then 10,000 km/6,200 miles.)

(If you watch movie credits role after the occasional movie, just to see if anything interesting pops up, you would understand how I found this...it is at the very near the end of the manual!)

Just changed mine @ 32k miles. Didn’t lose anything. 8k miles since last change.
Sometimes oil use is noticed the first couple of changes as the motor breaks in…. But, it doesn’t seem like there are many oil use complaints on this site.
