People who see Bigfoot see something.
They are not making it up.

Most are bears walking on two legs.
Occasionally it is a person in a costume.

But people believe what they want to believe.

Does your "OEM" manual say fill to the max line every time? Or is that your personal belief?

Actually, you don't need to bother answering. The manual calls out anywhere in the cross-hatched area as "normal".

The cross-hatched area is from zero to about 75% of the range between minimum (add) and maximum.

From OEM Specification (it's in your manual):

"IF THE OIL LEVEL IS BETWEEN THE MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM MARKS DO NOT ADD OIL."

I don't think I've posted anything contradictory to the OEM users manual.

Best. ✌

Thanks for your reply. I respect that everyone has their way of interpreting the manual — but I prefer to follow engineering logic and system design.

Ford’s official oil capacity for the 2.0L EcoBoost (MFC engine) is 6.1 quarts, and yes — when filled to that spec, the oil level lands precisely at or just 1 mm below the MAX line on the dipstick.

The cross-hatched area simply represents a safe operating range — not a target range for optimal performance under stress, heat, or heavy load.
The engine is engineered and tested at full spec, not at “somewhere mid-range.”

For reference:

MAX line ≈ 6.1 qts (OEM fill)

Mid-range ≈ 5.5 qts

MIN line ≈ 4.9 qts

You can run your engine with less than spec if that works for you — but I’d rather stay at factory design level for proper cooling, pressure, and lubrication dynamics.

No folklore here — just spec sheets and physics.

Best,

I can't recall years or makes - but years ago when synthetic wasn't a huge thing but easily found - I dealt with someone's car that called out NOT using full synthetic until after so many miles on the mix (well past break-in miles mentioned), and it seems even called out the factory oil left in for the full break-in period, not swapped early.
Research later suggested they said that was for proper ring seating.

Is that still a thing?
The few stories at the time, of going back to OEM mix for additional miles to stop excess oil consumption, were given.

Great question — and you're absolutely right that early synthetic use used to be debated for ring seating.

Back in the day (especially with older honing techniques and looser tolerances), manufacturers often recommended using conventional oil for the first 1,500–3,000 miles to ensure proper piston ring break-in. The idea was that a small amount of friction helped rings seat better.

But modern engines like the Ford EcoBoost are built to much tighter specs and usually come from the factory with a synthetic blend or even full synthetic oil. The machining and cross-hatching on cylinder walls is now so precise that ring seating happens within the first few hundred miles — and manufacturers calibrate the engine and oiling system around that.

In the case of the 2025 Maverick EcoBoost (MFC engine), Ford uses Motorcraft synthetic blend from the factory, and they don’t list any restriction on switching to full synthetic early. I swapped to a PAO-based Group IV synthetic at 495 miles, but only after doing a proper break-in drive routine and verifying oil pressure and performance were stable.

So while it used to be a thing — today, for most modern engines, switching to high-quality full synthetic after ~500/800 miles is totally safe, provided the engine was properly broken in and the oil meets (or exceeds) the manufacturer’s spec.

Thanks for bringing this up — it’s a valid concern and a good topic to revisit with how far engine technology has come

All the best,

12,000 miles both city and highway, zero consumption. Regular oil changes.

Is there a spec sheet somewhere for the 2025 hybrid version of those max/mid/min fills you posted for the EB ? I just did my first oil change @ 2K km's and my mechanic topped up to 6.4 quarts....we both checked the MAX line 3 times and it's bang on max if not a hair under. Did they make my dip stick shorter ? lol Worried me a bit

Had it been run so filter was full, and then allowed to drip dry for 15 min?

Checking the Engine Oil Level

  1. Make sure that your vehicle is on level ground.
  1. Check the oil level before starting the engine, or switch the engine off after warm up and wait 15 minutes for the oil to drain into the oil pan.
Note: Checking the oil level too soon could result in an inaccurate reading.
