Ford is actually far better than most manufacturers, in that you can turn the modem off, and turn off telematics and most data collection. I’ll lose some convenience and $200 worth of Ford Points, but I won’t be installing the FordPass app. On the truck, I’ll go through the infotainment setting and turn off every telemetry setting that I find.

Insurance companies have their own analytics. Even without Ford's tracking, insurance companies will determine rate increases based on their projected claims and inflation. What is making your insurance rates go up is the accident lawyer on every other billboard.

Jeez, I bought my Maverick to seek simplicity. It is a vehicle in the right direction and I like it. But has things I don’t want and don’t need. My early 80’s Ford Ranger had crank up windows, no AC, 3 speed standard and no electronics except a basic radio. 39 mpg. It was a real (tiny) truck.
And very reliable. I would turn in my Maverick for a REAL basic vehicle in a minute.
Have federal laws prevented such a vehicle from being built? Or is just the manufacturers piling on profitable accessories?

It's not like the insurance companies need a reason to raise your rates. Even if it is true, that they'd never admit to, what are you going to do if they'd admit to? Sell your Maverick and purchase a bike? By now, even the bikes have telemetry that collects your data, including sexual preferences...

According to a NASA engineer the 6 IBM main frames at the time of John Glenn's first orbits of the earth didn't have the capacity to run our computer's mouse, let alone anything else. So if our phone have that capacity and more, imagine the capacity of collecting information that is out there today. Yes, the privacy train has left the station a long time ago and is lost out there some where.

Aaarrrggghhh!!! The thought of the spreadsheet showing all the times one, two, three, or even more cell phones were in the same rooms with each other and how long they were not held along with any pictures any or all of them were taken. Of course including data on preferences. Of interest was the "you are pre-approved" email I got from my bank for about 120% of the maverick Tremor's MSRP about two hours after I got my scheduled build date from FORD!!! AI is at work!!!!!

The fact that our data is everywhere can be intimidating for sure. In order to feel better about it, I simply change the last letter in data from "a" to "e". That way I'm sharing my information on Big Date instead of Big Data!

Yes. And Ford is using 99% of that data to see that 90% of driving is done at 55MPH or below and within urban/suburban settings. So, they decided to offer a truck to target that market specifically.

Telemetrics are not inherently evil.

No... but the people that use them may be (symbolically borrowed from the old adage "statistics don't lie, but sometimes those who create them do")

Google maps is a big one. I was using maps to get somewhere and noticed that in the middle of nowhere was a slowdown. I came up on it and there was no one around except for a couple of people on the side of the road putzing along on 4 wheelers. It was seeing them as slow traffic. Everyone else on the road would have just zipped around them going 60.

Everyones tech is creeping on them. Ive had a few incidents where I feel that the phone call itself was being monitored. Today, I was talking to my son about Olive garden over the phone, we never talk about Olive garden in the house and I have not clicked on any ads or looked up anything like Italian recipes etc.
Poof...an OG email appears in my inbox. I have had emails from OG but the last one was almost a year ago. When I ordered a togo order.

Even more hmmm, one night I was talking to my daughter on the phone in my low tech car and we were talking about her setting up an account with Deutsche Bank and that the way my account was set up I didn't have to pay taxes on any gain.
I got an audit about 6 mos later, they had targeted the Deutsche acct and money I had taken out 3 years earlier. Had a CPA go over our taxes again just to make sure. There was nothing wrong and the audit found nothing out of the ordinary.

That will also kill any cellphone. Many of them continue to work even if you power them off. Wrapping them in foil prevents signals they emit from going anywhere.
