Why do people complain about others spending 40k on a maverick?

Scion iq forum.🤯 When I mentioned I really liked and was thinking about buying an Aston Martin Cygnet.
looking at them, I'm not sure that they're different enough to make sure I strap the correct one to each foot . . .

🤔

Years ago. You should have heard the folks on the Scion iq forum.🤯 When I mentioned I really liked and was thinking about buying an Aston Martin Cygnet.

Ya know, that 24k price increase was really hard to swallow... until I saw those custom pillows in the backseat of the Aston. That sealed the deal 😉.

If people think 40k is too much then they can get an XL or XLT. A basic 25 XL you can get for 28k or 30k for an XLT.

I get it, 40k is a lot of money, the interior is from a $20,000 vehicle, and the lariat is just putting lipstick on a pig etc. etc.

but I'm going to list things I need in a vehicle, and try to come up with something for me.
-has a bed for dirt/mulch etc so it doesn't get in the cab. (my wife likes to garden and we have a decently big property to do work on)
-gets good gas mileage because my wife and I live outside the city and commute about 60 miles to work one way
-has a good ride quality/decent handling. I've daily driven sports cars my whole life so I have some expectation that it doesn't drive like complete crap like a "real" truck.
-leather/pleather seats for ease of cleaning. we have a dog and scrubbing mud out of cloth seats sucks ass.
-has 4-5k towing capabilities for a trailer to do home renos/dump runs etc.
-is less than $50k.
-AWD for winter driving
-is small enough to park in the city easily, good turning radius etc.

Literally, the ONLY vehicle that currently exists which fits that arbitrary list of criteria is the 2025 maverick lariat hybrid/awd. The xlt doesn't come with pleather seats, 2024 models don't come awd and hybrid, any crossover/suv isn't going to have a seperate area for dirt so it's going to end up all over the cabin. Any "real" truck is going to be too big, too fuel hungry and crap to drive.

Everyone talks like getting a ranger is some huge upgrade for a few grand more. It's a completely different class of vehicle. It's like asking why someone bought a miata when they could have bought a duramax because you can't haul 20 sheets of plywood in a miata. Like maybe the "more capable" vehicle is actually worse in the ways that matter to that person, and much more inconvenient in other ways? Anyways I'm just tired of hearing about this and wanted to get your guys thoughts.
I posed this issue on this site over a year ago. The reason I bought my 23 maverick was because Initially it was a brand new vehicle listed for under 20 grand..that was a huge draw in 2022. By the time I got my awd xlt ecoboost it was 32 k. And soon after these 20 thousand dollar trucks were over 40 grand. I think Ford capitalized on mavericks popularity and began raising the price...to soon and to much. I get the price needs to go up over time, but the jump was to much and to quick.ticked some people off.

All that matters is does the vehicle fit your needs number one…..then is it an enjoyable experience number 2. All trucks are expensive period and the Maverick is a pretty solid choice for the price

Yeah, I feel the same, maverick fits my criteria of what I'm looking for. When I see at that price...get xyz Ford truck ranger / bronco/ etc... then I'm like that's no longer the type of vehicle I'm looking for.
And I get the upgrades I want in the class of truck I am looking for.

It's very simple - and part of the reason why sites like this exist in the first place: people like confirmation that they made the right choice.

For some people, that involves attacking choices that are different than the choices they made. It's easy to forget that what's a good choice for ME is not necessarily a good choice for anyone else. Some people cannot acknowledge that without questioning their choices again.

I don't have a pet I allow in my truck, and I find fake leather uncomfortable in the summer, so I avoided the Lariat primarily for a key reason that you like it. That doesn't mean I'm wrong or you're wrong, just that we're different, and I'm okay with that.

Well said my friend! 2022,2023 models well below $40 K . I love my 2024 Lariat, every add on I could think of and it still came in under $40 k

The older I get, the more I struggle to understand people. The maverick is a cheap basic car, the very thing a lot of people have been begging for. Ford makes it, people complain that it's too cheap and basic, so they add a bunch of options, and then complain about the price. Makes no sense to me personally.

Ford wanted to generate the buzz of a $20k hybrid pick up knowing full well there was no competition and they would raise prices appropriately.

the 2022 $20k truck is not the same truck as the 2025. The 2025 has more features and shouldn’t have the same recalls the 22-23s faced.

The 2025 in any trim still does not have any direct competition and relative to the truck market it represents a great deal.

When the perception is that people with big money buy Mavericks, then the cost of accessories and after-market parts also floats higher. When the perception is that the people who own Mavericks are the scrappier DIY-kind of people, that's the direction that the community and after market supports will go. Given how the community has helped with the lane assist and other mods/hacks, there is an incentive to push back against the $40k-want-it-all-done-for-them type of owners.

Missed opportunity! Had you bought the Cygnet I bet Aston would have flown you, and the other 2 that bought one, out to HQ for a fun day!

Edit:

On the topic of the Maverick at $40K, I think it comes down to a number of things. The truck originally was positioned as an affordable utilitarian vehicle. That really isn't the case anymore. Seeing a $40K MSRP on a truck that was positioned as starting at $20K will cause a reaction. The increase in the MSRP greatly outpaces inflation by several times.

The interior and paint quality simply do not justify $40K. Our interiors are made out of milk jugs (HDPE) and it shows. The paint chips with a large mosquito hitting it at freeway speeds.

Pending the 2025 models performance, Ford has yet to address the CV axle issue that haunts the '22, '23, and '24 model years. A defect in the design has been identified by multiple 3rd party manufacturers - linked on the Forum else where.

Ford has, unfortunately, succeeded in moving the Maverick up market without improving the overall quality of the truck.
☝This guy nailed it! Not to mention a lot of people are fed up with being taken advantage of by these car companies. We as consumers keep accepting these insane price increases it will only get worse.

Yep, but then the XL/XLT people come on the forums asking how they can add the Lariat features after the fact and find that they can't or the ones they can are even more expensive than getting the Lariat to begin with.
