If they took your money you have some standing, I would think. Take that $500 and pay a lawyer for an hour or two. Maybe you can threaten to subpoena their phone records or emails to see if they really tried to contact you.

Was my Maverick sold out from under me despite my order?
Man, what a bummer. I would be sitting there NOW demanding my deposit money back and not leave without it and not take "we will put the check in the mail." They had use of your money all this time, unless they just kept the check and did not cash it. Let the GM know what a scummy way to do business. Chances are they got a few K above msrp to someone else. Once you have your money, then the entire forum needs to light them up big time.

Go see them, find out what happened, and whether they are willing to work with you.
If so, work with them.
If not, get your $500, make it very clear you are unhappy, write an honest bad review, and move on.
You have no legal recourse, it isn't worth the pain and stress to try.

If it is any consolation, you are not the first to have this happen to them. I had never dealt with my dealer before, so I dogged them every step of the way. Turns out they were one of the good ones, but taking 491 days to get my order, I wasn't going to take any chances.
There were several folks here that were saying "when it comes it comes...don't worry about i. Just wait til the dealer calls you." Those folks have probably seen enough stories like your to realize that only works if you have a good dealer...and there are a lot of scum dealers out there, like the one in Knoxville, TN as well as yours. In that case, the salesman sold someone's order to his cousin!

When a dealership tells you that they will look in to it and call you back that is a red flag. It's probably long gone and they need to come up with an excuse to give you.
I would go to the dealership and talk to the sales manager directly. Just say you got the emails saying the Maverick was built and shipped and ask them to look up the status.
Let's see what excuse they make.
The order banks are still open for 2024 so get them to order you another one at high priority and sell it to you for the same price as the 2023.

exactly what I was thinking - go down there and discuss this with the salesperson and the general manager and bring all documentation and your cell phone if that's how they were going to contact you. When they tell you some bull or other excuse go on a somewhat subdued tirade and ask them what they are going to do for you, and if it's not up to what you expect then you tell them what they are going to do for you. It should (should...) be relatively easy to put in another order and have the dealer give you the highest priority on this and they should eat the price difference.
I would go in playing dumb and not let them know you know it was sold already. Also, have your phone recording audio. Alabama is a one party consent state. See what you can get out of them. Obviously, your deposit back is a must. If they don't want to play ball, light up all the media outlets you can think of.
