The order banks are still open for 2024 so get them to order you another one at high priority and sell it to you for the same price as the 2023.
Or maybe see what stock they have/are in transit and push them for below MSRP on one of those (if OP likes any of the specs). Could look within all of long lewis, not just the hoover inventory.

No one ever contacted me by phone or email. No contact at all
Have you checked the junk mail folder of your email? I am frequently surprised by the legit stuff that goes in there. It won't help you get your truck, but you need to look just to eliminate it as a possibility of what might have happened.
If you indeed have a confirmed order from Ford and it's accompanying emails with the order#, contact Ford customer service and push this to the regional Ford manager, who is basically this dealership's Ford boss. Make that person understand you expect your order to be honored.

I've had a good relationship with my Ford dealer for 20 years and he said Ford has become more aggressive about this kind of dealer crap. Customer orders being sold to someone other than the customer can get the dealer fewer allocations as a penalty. He also mentioned that Ford has limited their dealer's profit on a Maverick customer order to $800, so your dealer may have done a dirtbag move to get more profit out of your order, by claiming it was abandoned by the customer.
My guess is he does not have many allocations of his own that he can sell for whatever the market will bear, so he did this dirtbag move to maximize his profits.

All is not lost, insist your dealer (or his regional manager) find you another truck at the original price on your order. There might be one just like your order in his pipeline. Insist your dealer sell you his next allocation at the original price.

We ordered our truck and waited, like everyone else, until one day my dealer called me and said he had a Maverick come in that the customer refused (he didn't want it anymore). As fate would have it, is was our exact truck except for a moon roof. When we went in later that day to buy that truck, the dealer handed me an email from Ford saying that our truck was being built. When we got home with the Maverick that same email was in my inbox.
I tell you that to let you know, you might still get a truck if you are persistent and pull the right 'Ford levers'.

Good luck.

I would go in playing dumb and not let them know you know it was sold already. Also, have your phone recording audio. Alabama is a one party consent state. See what you can get out of them. Obviously, your deposit back is a must. If they don't want to play ball, light up all the media outlets you can think of.
If the one party thing is true, this isn't a bad idea. If you seem weak they may admit to something they wouldn't otherwise. Once you have the recording, then you can start demanding what you want as now you have some leverage. I wouldn't admit to recording though, at least not while you are on their turf.

I don't know the legality of playing that recording back to someone at Ford and also recording their reaction. That would probably make for a viral YouTube video...

Seeing your story, I just checked on mine which was due in last Friday. It had been showing on the dealer website for weeks, now its gone. Did they clean up the website or sell it to someone else?

I ordered my 2.0L Maverick fx4 the week they opened the orders last year. Ford notified me when it was built and shipped. The last i heard about this vehicle was when it shipped 06/29/23. I have not heard a thing from Long Lewis Ford in Hoover Alabama since. I have called to get info 3 times and still have no answers. I put $500 down to place the order. Crickets from the dealership.
I've found it MUCH better to just show up unannounced. Frequently. Get to know everyone on the floor including the sales manager. Helped alot when I had issues with getting my 23 Mav Lariat Hybrid. All ultimately went well and love the truck!

It would not surprise me because of this line of events:

1. Saw an autotrader ad for Long Lewis on a 2023 XLT listed as new below $28k in Muscle Shoals, AL, so I contacted them.
2. They gave me the runaround.
3. I politely told them this sounds like a bait and switch.
4. Then among their excuses, one of the sales guys in a text, sent me a link to an ad for an XLT on their website.
5. I asked if it was available.
6. The sales guy went back and looked, and then told me it was a customer order.
7. I even told them, I don't think they're ethical, and discontinued communications with them.

However, after thinking about it later, I realized they're probably just one of many unethical dealers.

I was considering canceling my 2024 order if I bought that. Definitely keeping my 2024 order in place.

They sold mine out from under me without contacting me when it arrived at the dealership

Sad story to hear. This is exactly why I was tracking my truck every day using all methods possible. Ford Order Tracker, CSX Rail, texting my salesman almost daily, etc.

I would get my deposit back and run from this dealership. Even if you allowed them to place a 24MY order for you whose to say they would not pull the same crap again. Trust and respect have to be earned and they have lost all of that.

I am going to give their management the option to refund me my $500 + something to account for their poor management of this. If they dont comply, i am going on a social media, youtube and local news "on your side" campaign to expose this reprehensible business practice.
I would be standing in front of their dealership with a sign on public sidewalk..they sold my truck I waited a year for...

I was paranoid about this after hearing horror stories from others. I bought mine two weeks ago and had no problems though. From the day it was built to the day it was delivered i contacted the sales manger and my sales associate about twice a week. Sometimes I was just making up a reason to contact them. I had them send me tracking updated on vin view and kept in constant contact. I did this because I figured if I had a good relationship with them and they knew who i was they would know how important it was for me to get the truck. They called me the minute it was delivered to the lot and I drove off the lot the same day with it. I am sorry this happened to you but if you ever order a vehicle again make sure to be in constant contact with the dealership, at least once a week after the build. This is in no way your fault and scummy on the dealership, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I was that squeaky wheel to my dealership.

EXACTLY. And to all those who say it shouldn't have to be this way, you are correct. But it is. YOU want the truck; the dealer has no trouble selling it, so only YOU care.

Thanks for the info. Now, what recourse do i have against the dealer? They took my order, my $500, i waited a year for it, and they sold it out from under me!
Be sure to write a Google review and post a link to it so we can “like” it. Your review will stay on or near the top warning others. Mine from almost 2 years ago is still showing up. Management sent me a flower arrangement with an apology to get me to delete it 🤣😂
