I would advise that you NOT put a train horn on your vehicle. I was trailing a van on a highway R/R overpass one morning when the train blew his horn directly below the van. The van driver was so startled and jerked the steering wheel and nearly crashed. I can imagine you could be held liable if you were to cause an accident.

I never stop on railroad tracks. So if I hear a train horn - I’ll freeze. My inner Darwin tells me to Stop, Look, and Listen:)

I have always wondered about the legality behind that...

If you want a loud air horn, look for "MegaBlast" This is two horns and a 12v compressor for each one. They are very LOUD!
I was able to mount both horns and their compressors in front of the radiator on my Corvette. I'd get them for our RAV4, but there is no room for them.

Light goes green .....you go or hear my wrath!
I found a horn that has the volume and sound I want, easy to mount under the Maverick's hood, but how did you handle the wiring transition from factory to after market?

Sounds like the van driver had "startle reflex". I highly doubt anyone would get in trouble for too loud a horn. If that were the case, every semi driver might be facing charges. My motorhome has a three trumpet VERY loud air horn, as well as a regular car type horn. Whether a "toot toot" (car stye horn) is required (or a long air horn blast) depends on the offender's driving actions and attitude. Sometimes I use the carrot, other times the stick. But boy, the stick is a whole lot more fun!

A car horn says "If you could, please move over." An air horn says "Move over NOW!"

Yup! Every vehicle should have both horns! In Germany you don't get the horn as much as the eyeball burning, laser beam, high intensity bright lights flashing in your mirror, basically causing permanent blindness. All because Mr. Porsche was not happy you were doing only 127 mph and he had to be moving at 150 plus or be late for his meeting! Did I mention he was 1.7 inches off your rear bumper?

The Chevy Volt had 2 horns. The regular one activated from the steering wheel and a polite pedestrian horn that was activated by pushing a button at the end of the turn signal stalk.
I liked that one for when you wanted to gently advise people, who we're paying more attention to their phone that the traffic signal was now green.

I would love an "ahem...excuse me," horn in every vehicle I own!

But I don't, so will continue to count to 3 before trying to tap the stock horn lightly to gain attention...honestly, I don't use my horn more than once or twice a year.

But would still be nice if I had the choice.

Andy
