Really at almost 200" you can't call it small. Small relative to a modern full size truck, sure.

I'd guess that few of you ever drove a truly small truck:
2023 Ford Mav: 200 X 73 X 69, wheelbase 121
1972 Chevy LUV: 174 X 63 X 59, wheelbase 104.3

1972 saw the gasoline shortages and small was the thing of the day
Days of the Courier

Had fun with it, but it was pretty useless as a truck

I had a 74 Mazda Rotary Pickup in the mid 80's. Fuel economy was dismal at about 12mpg. But it had 4.87 gears and was screaming at about 3500 RPM at 55-60 mph. It would hit 120+ MPH pretty easy though. It was 174" L, 68" W, 61" H, and had a 104" WB. Weighed about 2,800#. There are no US trucks that tiny in the US anymore. They were deathtraps, and would NEVER pass safety, or emissions testing today. The Maverick and SC are the smallest US Compact trucks now. The Little Mazda had a bigger bed though. It was just like this one: Weekly Treasure: 1974 Mazda Rotary Pickup Truck | CarBuzz

A Wrangler is also not a large vehicle. The Mav certainly isn't short. But it is in fact a small truck. Its not tiny. But it is significantly smaller than any full size truck and is now a fair bit smaller than most mid sized trucks.
2 door Wranglers are quite small, they just have wide axles. I wouldn't consider a 4 door Wrangler very large either at only 188" long.

I love pulling up to a lifted $80,000 F-150 in my "little" $27K lowered Mav XLT HYBRID (as I chuckle to myself). Really, the only interior difference is the size of the ARMREST
If you think this is true then you have never sat in an F150. The cabin width and length are notably different. I can sit behind my 5'10" friend in his F150 and my knees don't come close to the back of his seat. If I sit behind my own seat position in the Maverick (i am 5'8) my knees touch the fabric. Statements like this are just completely out of touch with reality.

Now, granted, I'm moving from a 2008 Ranger single cab, but MY GOD, after picking up my truck yesterday I can't get over how HUGE it feels! Interior cabin feel is enormous, cavernous in comparison even to my old Honda CR-V. Even the exterior "feels" big to me, I went to apply a quick spray wax yesterday afternoon, having done the same job on my Ranger the weekend before, and it seemed like twice the work, area to cover. It's just fascinating, I'd previously seen a lot of pictures on here with side by side comparisons of the old rangers and the Maverick, I wasn't prepared for how much larger this vehicle would feel.

Don't get me wrong, I love every inch of it!! But for anybody who's thinking this is a teensy truck, they've got a reality check coming.
In reality, many trucks have grown to such an excessive size that, when placed side by side, the Maverick appears quite compact.

In truth, this model isn't actually smaller than the last Ford Ranger I purchased back in 2003. It's even larger than the Ford Ranger, which used to be my preferred truck and the reason behind my ownership of seven of them.

Our societal fascination with size has become prominent. While I do acknowledge that specific tasks necessitate particular dimensions, even individuals who don't require extensive towing capabilities or off-road capabilities (like myself) have found themselves buying these oversized vehicles. In my case, what I truly desired was the classic Ranger, not the significantly upsized version. It would have been ideal if Ford had designated the Maverick with the name Ranger, and the current larger model as the Maverick. While I appreciate my Maverick, it's essentially the Ranger of the past.

The Mav is actually 3.9 inches shorter than my 2011 Ranger w/ extended cab. It might be longer than the Ranger short cab version though (I haven't checked).

It is small enough that I can reach almost anything in the bed without having to climb up in the bed. That's why I bought it. Every other current truck is too tall.

It's the only metric that counts anymore. Trucks from 15, 30, or 75 years ago don't matter when you are comparing to the current classes of vehicles. My 73 Cutlass coupe was a mid sized car in 1973 at 209" long. Now that would be larger than a full Size.

I still encounter much smaller trucks when out driving around town, but the Maverick itself is also tiny when parked next to the F-150 Lightning in the driveway.

I traded in my 2011 R
I've read threads like this a few times on the forum but I often wonder how true it is.

Specs are difficult to pin down on older vehicles but Motor Trend has an article on the 2008 Ranger and the size specs aren't all that different from the Maverick.

2008 Ranger specs: 188.9-203.6 x 69.3-71.3 x 66.2-67.7 inches
2023 Maverick specs: 199.7 x 72.4 x 68.7 inches

Measurements are length x width x height and as you can see your old Ranger isn't that much smaller than the Maverick. The Mav is a few inches wider and few inches taller but not by much.

Honestly I think it is mostly the cabin space that makes you think the Maverick is so much larger. You moved from a single cab pick up to a crew cab pick up.

Anyway, by todays standards the Maverick is a very small truck. Not a small vehicle by any means but in comparison to other trucks it is small.
I traded in my 2011 Ranger Xlt Super Cab for my Maverick Xlt hybrid, they are very close in overall size. I gained rear seats instead of the two jump seats that were in the Ranger but lost a foot and a half of bed length . When driving the Maverick it feels larger to me , I think it's the design of the hood.
