In an emergency like this and your brakes are not working You can hold the parking lever and it will apply brakes I have tried it.
While you hold the lever up the brakes are on as soon as you let go with the brakes let go.
True when going down the road at speed, I tried this just to see how it worked, but by the time the OP would have been able to apply it, he would have already hit the building, it was such a short distance & happened so quickly.

If the cops let you drive it home, it seems they didn't believe you. Report it to NHTSA to do us all a favor.

With all the left field comments here I would like to suggest to Randy that your problem is somewhere in your Brake Control Module, connections or software. It definitely should be looked after by the dealership. Ford Mavericks are well known for grabby braking at slow speed and has been issued a couple repair software tickets by Ford. Below is some information I copied for you.

PS: Don't drive the vehicle again after the brakes fail, it might not end well for you!

"In a Ford Maverick, the "brake-by-wire" system works by using a sensor to monitor how much pressure is applied to the brake pedal, then sending that information to a control unit which electronically determines the necessary braking force, activating the brakes through an electric pump that generates hydraulic pressure to slow the vehicle down; essentially replacing a traditional mechanical linkage with an electronic signal to control braking power."

"Key points about the Ford Maverick brake-by-wire system:
Sensor on the pedal: A sensor on the brake pedal measures how far it is pressed down.
Control unit: This unit receives the signal from the sensor and calculates the required braking force based on driving conditions.
Electric pump: The control unit activates an electric pump which generates hydraulic pressure to apply the brakes."

this is technically possible but it does not explain why he didn't have issues coming home, or why the pedal went to the floor, or why a maverick idling can't get over a curb.

pushing the gas by mistake does explain all 3 of those. human errors are much easier understood and forgiven than mechanical systems and the software that controls them.

so, let's say you're betting your next paycheck. where are you putting that money?

You’re driving an EcoBoost. Guess I can also try in my hybrid. But wonder if any hybrid owners have tried this?

Except that he did say it failed the same way, on the way home, trying to slow for a left turn. Pedal to the floor 3 times.
I saw and read it, on the original post.

I’d question if he wasn’t so gun shy and shocked with what happened that he was tapping the brakes and thinking nothing was being applied.

I get it sucks to be questioned like OP is but the only time I’ve ever had a pedal go to the floor like that there was a leak in the line or air in the line.

I saw that, but if it's true then it can be duplicated now by a 3rd party. I'll eat crow if that happens.

I can remember one of the times. I've had the brake pedal go to the floor on me.
It was 1974 I was driving my 70 sub lime green Dodge Challenger. I was on my way to the Ozark Music Festival in Sedalia Missouri. I just did my own brake job and somehow I got air in the line. I could pump my brakes and get it to stop. I ended up taking it to a shop Springfield Illinois and had the brakes properly bled.

Must have been a nice car! Loved the old Mopar colours, Sublime, Plum crazy, etc.

And depending on what school of driving you are in, and experience you have with it - left foot brake pedal, right foot go pedal, as I see so many driving now a days (or they all have malfunctioning brake lights as they increase speed on the streets), a panic has you pressing on both at the same time, if already on the go pedal coming in for a park an equal slam accelerates first.

Not sure if the younger generation I see doing that learned it that way from mom/pops, or assumed they had it right as teenagers never seeing a stick-shift (2 pedals, 2 legs, only 1 way this works).
If I inadvertently have my foot on the brake and hit the accelerator, my Mav will NOT accelerate and I will get a message on the display screen saying so................

brake over accelerator- yes, it won't let you. another thing that either failed or .. didn't fail, because the brake pedal wasn't pressed.
